The story beats are all there. The execution, however, is something to be desired. Before there was Tohru and Kyo — there was Katsuya and Kyoko. Watch the evolution of their love story and the birth of the Honda family, as this chapter completes the full adaptation of the heartwarming Fruits Basket story. Still, I was interested because for years Kyoko Honda has been pretty high on my tragic anime mom list as you only get to see her in flashbacks, so the thought of seeing her life before she became a framed photo was something I wanted to check out.

Blu-Ray Review: Fruits Basket – Season 1 Part 1
The Fruits Basket anime series is the second based on the manga series of the same name by Natsuki Takaya , this time adapting all 23 volumes of the story. The new anime adaptation was announced in November , [1] featuring a new cast and staff, as per Takaya 's request, with TMS Entertainment handling the 63 episodes-long production from April to June , divided into three seasons. Yoshihide Ibata directed the series, with Taku Kishimoto handling series composition and Masaru Shindou handling character designs. The first season adapted the manga's first 5 volumes and parts of volumes 6 and 7. The second season adapted the rest of volumes 6 and 7 and all content from volume 8 to the beginning of volume It aired from April 7 to September 22, The third and final season adapted the remaining content of the manga series. Funimation licensed the remake anime for a simulcast in partnership with Crunchyroll and produced an English version as part of their simuldub program.

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, year-old high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out… into a tent! It goes without saying that fans of the original series, and in turn manga, will love this fresh perspective of the classic tale; with newly animated presentation combined with the familiar voice cast of the original. Fruits Baskets follows the journey of year-old high school student Tohru Honda who finds herself living outside in a tent after a set of unfortunate events. These events are not only emotional but give Tohru a deeper backstory than most characters within a drama series such as this; and further information about her difficult upbringing is continuously drip fed throughout. Despite this rather depressing lifestyle that Tohru has been dealt, she continues to live the life of an ordinary high-school student, by attending school during the day and working a part-time job at night to pay her own way.

However, she is now an orphan after the tragic loss of her mother, now Tohru lives amongst the forest in a tent as she does not wish to be a burden on her extended family. Tohru is soon discovered camping on land belonging to the Soma family.
