Rurouni Kenshin sometimes known by the title Samurai X is a manga and anime series that grew to great popularity around the turn of the millennium in both Japan and America. Half-fighting and half-romance, Kenshin is a historical fiction set in the years after Japan's final civil war and dissolution of the samurai caste. It follows Himura Kenshin, one of the civil war's greatest warriors, who has given up killing and now wanders Japan seeking nothing more than a peaceful life. Rurouni Kenshin, which stars Takeru Satoh as the wanderer Himura Kenshin, has been a wildly popular live-action film series. In each film, Kenshin, also known as Hitokiri Battosai, who wields a reverse-blade sword, is pitted against a strong adversary. Netflix has just dropped The Final, the first of the last two movies in the series, and the last part, The Beginning, is following soon. With each film more than two hours long, be sure to set aside at least eight hours to binge-watch. While most actors require a stunt double for action scenes, Satoh prefers to take things into his own hands.

Before he came to the Kamiya Dojo, before he took up the reverse blade sword and named himself a wanderer, Kenshin fought in the revolution against the shogunate. But most did not know him as Kenshin. Then, he was the Battousai. He was the man-slayer. It is a thing that the very thought of fills some with dread. What does it take for a cold-blooded assassin, the very best in his line of work, to turn his back on killing and become a pacifist? Can true peace be obtained by force, and can violence truly be curbed with more violence? Perhaps most importantly, how can a retired swordsman hope to survive against a seemingly never-ending stream of vengeful villains out for his blood, when all he has is a sword with a reverse edge? Also known as "Samurai X" in other countries, "Rurouni Kenshin" follows the adventures of Kenshin Himura, a former revolutionary assassin with a cross-shaped scar on his cheek who, for initially mysterious reasons, turned his back on killing and re-emerged as a wanderer with a reverse-edge sword or sakabatou.
