The Lunarians, though, changed the terms of the deal: they demanded she deliver more of the gems to them. They even burned off one of her arms. Phos, exhausted and gagged, could do nothing.

Astonished, Rutile saw Phos propped up against the wall. Phos, their energy spent, barely had the strength so speak. Cinnabar watched Kongou send the other gems walk out, two by two, to search for Phos lost under the sea.
Nearly in tears, Cinnabar tried to convince themself that the search had nothing to do with them. Almost every frame has something that would, in another series, be its pinnacle.
You could see the agony throttle Cinnabar in its grip. The feelings within Cinnabar were so intense that they started to accept responsibility for the whole affair. Cinnabar was just about to give into their feelings of guilt. Cinnabar whirled, and on the beach behind them lay a shattered Phos. Both legs had been severed below the knee.
Cinnabar stood, shocked into silence. A simple stringed instrument provided the soundtrack. The hiss of waves was the only other sound. Cinnabar could only look on, shocked into continued silence. Anyway, these gems live in a school with their Sensei and they train to fight off these people creatures called the Lunarians, who live on the moon and keep coming to Earth in an attempt to try and steal the gems so that they can use them for jewellery. The actual plot if you look it up is that the main character Phos sets out on a mission to find Cinnabar a fellow gem a different job other than the night watch. Their job is to patrol the land at night to check for Lunarian attacks and therefore alert the other gems if they the Lunarians happen to appear. This is the only job Cinnabar can really do because of them being poisonous. None of them compare to Houseki No Kuni! I keep checking for updates all the time!

When Phos is instead assigned to complete a natural history of their world, it sounds like a dull and pointless task. But this new job brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, a gem forced to live in isolation.
In the mysterious future, crystalline organisms called Gems inhabit a world that has been destroyed by six meteors. Each Gem is assigned a role in order to fight against the Lunarians, a species who attacks them in order to shatter their bodies and use them as decorations. Phosphophyllite, also known as Phos, is a young and fragile Gem who dreams of helping their friends in the war effort. Instead, they are told to compile an encyclopedia because of their delicate condition.
