Well, it really depends on how you look at it. In fact, I felt like I was watching one long, extended denouement. The fight starts out predictably: Yuri has Joe on the ropes thanks to his years of training and experience. Fighting Joe, however, is like fighting a wall. Near the end of the match, however, Joe and Yuri both realize that winning the tournament never really mattered to either of them.
Neither are in this for the championship belt. They just wanted to find each other and they did. They found their dance partner. Finally, a single tear rolls down her cheek. He may not have died, but his career did. And so did his relationship with Yukiko. After this, the epilogue begins. A year has passed, and we see Nanbu practicing his one-year anniversary speech for the opening of his gym.
Last but not least, Joe has stopped boxing, but you never know. We watch from the distance as the young man practices his dancing moves.
In the foreground, a scorpion watches before walking offscreen. Where was our triumphant moment? Fine, fine, I get it: neither Joe nor Yuri really care who wins, but… I do! I wanted to see either confetti rain down from the sky or hear fireworks going off in the distance. But we got nothing, man. We saw him pull himself up from the rigged underground matches to the upper echelon of the Megalo Boxing world.
Man… the ending was just too zen-like for me, I guess. I wanted rising tension, but I got peace and satisfaction. I wanted to feel anxiety and finally release, but I got acceptance. In the end, neither men really had anything to fight for but their pure love for the sport. Honestly, this is probably a show that I have to revisit in the near future.
If you see Joe and Yuri as two beasts just trying to free themselves from their respective prisons, then this ending should deliver. Well, logically, I think it should. They fought themselves to freedom, and that was the true conflict all along. I expected a must-win fight. I expected a winner and a loser. Overall, the story did its job. After all, I think I said everything I really needed to say up above. At the same time, however, look how far Joe has come in such a short amount of time.
He still has to make a living somehow. These are not important questions at all. Could you imagine Joe settling down with a steady job and a family? Then again, maybe all he needs is Yuri. Ultimately what both Joe and Yuri want is a really good fight. Yuri have been steamrolling every that came up to him for so long, even Pepe got knocked out in 2 rounds. He want a proper challenge and Joe was the first one in a long time that challenged him fundamentally.
Joe was never given the proper chance beyond his fix matches. For the most part, watching this anime is an interesting and a fun experience. And other than the ending and some bumps on the road, this anime has an excellent execution that I sincerely appreciate. It reminds me of the ending of Inception way too much, and it pissed me off. I do hope this anime is successful, so we can get more anime in this vein.
I waffled between a B- and a B. That is why I believe this anime can become an anime that deserves an A. It could also be because I like cyberpunk and this kind of aesthetic appeals to me more. I just want to explain why I believe that if it does, it can earn an A. Sorry for the misunderstanding. And you remind me to watch Antarctica! Going back to Megalobox — solid show all in all. Megalobox was this stylish anime from a couple of years ago about this bloke called Joe who entered a futuristic boxing tournament without the regulation equipment. Joe is fairly one-dimensional, his coach is a simpering irritant, and his kid sidekicks are kid sidekicks with everything that typically comes with that role. It was an anime carried by its style more than anything, but that style was genuinely excellent. They were basically told by producers that western fans loved the show so go make more. They went out drinking and tried to come up with what Joe would do after becoming Megalobox champion. As soon as he fucks up once, he hates himself, skips town and gets addicted to meds because it turns out having mechanically enhanced fists repeatedly whack you in the face does bad things to your brain. This is a Joe that the first season never felt like it had. A character with genuine depth, with dreams that were broken, an attachment to characters, a personality beyond me angry me punch up.

Once in a while, a story comes along that manages to combine two disparate genres in a way that somehow makes perfect sense. Alien did it with sci-fi and horror, Hot Fuzz did it with action and comedy — even the original Star Wars fused classic space opera tropes with fantasy, western, and samurai stylings. Stone , and the classic anime film Akira — originally premiered with its first season back in But with its second season recently concluded earlier this year, this truly unique series deserves a closer look. But instead of being a straightforward retelling of Ashita no Joe , it would be more accurate to call Megalo Box a reinvention of its manga predecessor.

There has to be a ton of typos, if you find one please tell me so i can edit it. I did this cause i didnt see any tale of a hummingbird in English nor in Spanish. Have a nice day and drink plenty of water. As the wind whirled by, a hummingbird appeared before the nomad as they made their way through the wasteland.

The Outcome of the Fight is Kept Hidden But just before the episode comes to an end, a post-credits scene pops up and Joe's fighting stats which show 7 wins and 0 losses are revealed, making it obvious that he won the last fight. He is the main boxer of Team Shirato and is known as the greatest boxer in the Megalonia due to his status as the boxer ranked in first. Does Gearless Joe get gear? His ring name became "Gearless Joe" after he fought his first opponent without using a gear , and this becoming his signature way of fighting in the ring. Miss my review last week? You can find it here! Yuri, having undergone a horrific procedure to remove the integrated gear, now relies solely on his boxing skill and natural strength. No better way to go toe-to-toe with the Gearless fighter that has been taking the world of Megalonia by storm!
