Invader zim best cartoon

Whenever I hear the words cult classic, my mind immediately turns to Invader Zim. The cute little if somewhat dark cartoon that first aired on Nickelodeon in the early 00s. The show followed the story of an alien invader named Zim from the plant Irk, sent to destroy Earth in order for the rulers of his home planet to get him out of the way for the real Universe take over. However, his plans of world domination are often foiled by adolescent budding paranormal investigator Dib, who despite his abnormally big head manages to battle the alien with devices stolen from his scientist father. Awesome, right?

What's next for Jhonen Vasquez? The cartoonist talks Invader Zim comics finale, more

Mainly, because nobody cares. Invader Zim is different. Zim , the Nickelodeon cartoon is aimed primarily at children, but nonetheless grabbed adult followers of previous NCrated ink-and-paper projects from creator Jhonen Vasquez like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Squee.

How many other cartoons can boast of transcending the limitations of their intended age demographic? Adventure Time? Justice League Unlimited? The Simpsons , arguably? Alexovich—who went on to a substantial career in comics following Zim with projects like Serenity Rose — fielded some questions from Paste amid a break from working on art for the new Invader Zim comic.

So are we going to see curse words and graphic violence in the Invader Zim comic book or what? Aaron Alexovich: Well, Oni is going to do this comic under a plus tag, so whatever that entails. Obviously, without Nickelodeon breathing down our necks, we have a lot more freedom with that. Paste: Maybe I Feel Sick levels of mayhem?

You always had Nickelodeon pushing back, because they did have to approve things. Paste: A lot of the gags on Invader Zim are sort of non sequitur-based. We could pull it more in that direction, like, with a pig smashing through a wall for no reason? Alexovich: Oh, exactly. You have to pick the right three words. To go off on these tangents, you have to have a decent skeleton.

Paste: As far as doing more Zim stuff, why a comic? Why not more cartoons, or a movie, or a straight-to-Netflix live action thing? Alexovich: A couple of years ago, we actually almost did bring the cartoon back, but it got caught up in some budgetary shenanigans. It pops up every now and again. This comic book thing came up because Oni has the license to make comics, and they called Jhonen to ask if he wanted to be involved.

It used to be, when a show got cancelled, that was pretty much the end of it. Alexovich: Nothing ever dies anymore. There will be t-shirts at Hot Topic until long after our sun dies. So we might as well put some content behind those t-shirts.

He does stuff! And new stuff! Somebody came up to me and had me sign a bunch of action figures. I had no idea they had an action figure of Pustulio the giant zit, but there it is! Paste: Or at least a mark of plentiful merchandising opportunities. Alexovich: Yeah, I guess so. They should make some action figures based on whatever new characters we come up with. Paste: Yeah, something people can put on their desks and totally freak out their moms.

Of every show to get a nostalgic reboot, Invader Zim ranked pretty low on the list. But the Nickelodeon cartoon was always a show tailored for much older audiences, owned by a network that never knew what to do with it. It took more than 10 years, but it turns out Nickelodeon has finally figured out that years upon years of fan outcry, strong merchandise sales and a comic book revival meant that Invader Zim really was something special. A television movie based on the short-lived series is in the works. Invader Zim was the kind of show destined to be loved by a certain niche, a cable TV anomaly that we should just be thankful to have ever gotten any episodes of at all.

He is the hyperactive robotic assistant of Zim and the closest thing the incompetent Irken has to a friend, having been constructed from scrap parts by the Almighty Tallest just before it was handed to Zim , instead of a regular SIR Standard-issue Information Retrieval Unit. The only differences between GIR and regular SIR units are the unique coloration of the luminous parts of GIR's body teal instead of red, although they do go red when he is in Duty Mode , a different configuration for the eyes, and his cross-hatched mouth. The similarities in construction suggest that the components from which he was built came from an out-of-date model of SIR unit. GIR's usual Earth disguise consists of a green "mongoose-dog" suit with a zipper on the stomach, and a head that can be pulled over like a hood. It also includes a small tail that he is inexplicably capable of wagging like an Earth dog.

When it comes to cult classic cartoons, you'd be hard-pressed to find one quite as beloved as Invader Zim. Despite being canceled by Nickelodeon after less than two seasons, the show has maintained a sizeable fanbase, many of whom spent years calling for it to return in some form or fashion.

The film debuts with an electrifying trailer

With that logic in mind, Invader Zim was clearly lightyears ahead of its time. It was dark and mysterious, visually iconic and grim in its humour. It was nihilism for children, a critique on American consumer culture and disturbing in its nightmare premise. More than that though, Invader Zim was just a damn good cartoon series that was taken from this world at too young an age. Thanks also to much of the talent behind the cult classic TV series returning to write dozens of brilliant new adventures in comic book format, Invader Zim is experiencing a renaissance of sorts. While it remains to be seen if the TV movie can reach the same bar that its source material set, one thing is for certain: Those two seasons of delightfully dark animation have aged wonderfully over the years.

Best Cartoon Ever: Day 37 - Futurama vs. Invader Zim

If you grew up watching Nickelodeon's Invader Zim , chances are you're a cool person with a twisted sense of humor That's because Invader Zim , despite being a kids' show, is absolutely morbid and dark even compared to the likes of Cow and Chicken, Samurai Jack, or the first three seasons of Spongebob Squarepants. It's no wonder Invader Zim only lasted two seasons in Nick. Still, the utterly insane kids' cartoon gained a cult following which even warranted a belated Netflix film, Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus. It was a dream come true for us fans of the screechy evil green alien. Creator Jhonen Vasquez even included some homages to the canceled cartoon, something only fans could've chuckled at. Here are 10 of those moments in Enter the Florpus. Correction September 10th : An earlier version of this article incorrectly listed Minimoose's first episode.

One of the best parts of Villainous is it's Cartoon Network's first Mexican animation. The show is in Spanish with subtitles for English viewers.

SMITE Welcomes More Popular Animated Characters

This was my first time doing anything with animation and I think I learned a lot. Spinel doesn't want to show any signs of weakness. And Rose is just.

In fact, fans are already hoping two series will get revamps. Which was your favorite? Imagine that your parents are professional ghost hunters, and that one of their experiments merges your DNA with ectoplasm. The animation was boss, and the plot perfectly balanced the dark trials of teenagerhood with thoughts of the afterlife. Talk about existential….

Invader Zim. It was Nick's last hope.

Hi-Rez Studios' Smite was first released on consoles with 17 gods and limited cosmetic options in and has since blossomed to include gods and countless skins, avatars, emotes, and more. Smite 's next significant crossover has been confirmed as Nickelodeon and players can expect to see the changes later this month as Season 9 continues. The most recent crossover for Smite featured the members of popular metal band Slipknot and introduced two of the band's songs to the vast Smite soundtrack. Other crossovers that have appeared in Smite over the years include the anime RWBY , Rambo , Stranger Things , and Transformers , with this new crossover adding to an already established lineup of Nickelodeon characters. These characters join Nickelodeon characters that have already been introduced as Smite heroes with the Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers in the past. On top of the skins being added with Smite x Nickelodeon, there will be a dozen free cosmetics for players to unlock such as the Global Emote or Gir Jump Stamp, allowing Nickelodeon fans to express themselves in numerous ways.

Sweet Tooth is a fantasy drama based on the comic book of the same name. Viacom recently confirmed that Nickelodeon will be creating an original, animated film for Netflix based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja. The upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series is one exception, with Netflix producing it in joint partnership with Nickelodeon after buying its rights before production started.
