One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 review for PS3
Either you like the show for which its based, or you like Dynasty Warriors type games. If both, this is the game for you. Not alone in branching from anime series, One Piece shamelessly clings to the video game series it was modeled after. That being said, as the third entry in this particular video game series, you can expect much like the Budokai series, or Naruto Ninja Storm series a rehash of all the shows story moments up to the point in the manga where this game was made.
As far as the art style of the game goes, it employs cell-shading like many other anime games to evoke the drawings of the show brought into a 3D world. That being said, the music designed for the game not even a part of the show is consistently exciting and in keeping with the tone. It keeps the energy up as your hero dispatches wave after wave of, very simple in their geometry, AI combatants. That being said, the endless waves offer up some good, mindless fun that in many levels reminded me more of Ninety-Nine Nights another clone of the genre rather than just Dynasty Warriors.

Final Fantasy 14 has had an absolute stonker of a year. It's quietened down a little and only a little , but with over eight-years worth of updates and millions of players to its name, FF14 is now, unsurprisingly, one of the biggest games on the planet. It's a position the game rightfully deserves, with each of its expansions praised by critics for an epic storyline that's gone from confronting evil empires to quelling thousand-year wars or hopping dimensions and facing a universe-destroying embodiment of despair, all while deftly navigating the threads that tie it all together. As an MMO full of references to other games in the series, FF14 is often called a 'Final Fantasy theme park' - but there's far more to it than that. He's so into it he started his own in-game fashion brand , in fact, and frequently tweets his adventures. Its blend of epic, player-central storyline and huge array of casual extras continues to surprise me even now, and despite approaching it with some scepticism after the original failed release in , FF14's managed to keep its hooks in me consistently for over eight years, in a way no other game has. It hasn't always been a smooth journey. The starting chapter, A Realm Reborn, definitely feels a little slow and simple in retrospect, but get to the later expansions and it has one hell of a pay-off that makes that early slog worth it.

The epic voyage of the eccentric wannabe pirate Monkey D. Luffy and his loyal crew of misfits has delighted not only myself, but thousands of fans across the world through comics, television shows, movies, and yes, even games. Although the main quest line manages to summarize how the tale of the Straw Hat Pirates unfolds, it does a somewhat poor imitation and fails to capture the excitement and joy of the manga and cartoons. I did enjoy the accurate portrayal of all the characters and set pieces, and hearing all the original Japanese voices is also a nice touch; but people new to the franchise will probably get lost in the complex web of side plots and twists, and the lack of an English voice option might prove frustrating when following along with the dialog. Also, the visual style is mediocre at best, with really basic level design that often fails to keep you immersed in the experience. You spend most of the time dashing through the levels throwing yourself against giant mobs of trash enemies who pose almost no threat at all.
