Millions of children in the mids tuned in to the syndicated cartoon series "Jem" Phillips was raised in an environment ripe for future musicians; her father, Peter Phillips, composed jingles and once tutored musical legend Paul Simon on piano. When she and her father moved to New York City while he worked on Broadway plays, Phillips decided to pursue a musical career and moved on her own to Brooklyn at the age of Phillips already had inside connections to the musical industry through her father, who used his contacts to secure an audition for the title role of an upcoming cartoon series, "Jem.
For her audition, Phillips provided a demo tape of the cartoon's theme song. Based on the strength of that tape alone, she was immediately hired to perform all of Jem's songs; in fact, that demo was consequently used for the show's opening sequence. The film has since become a touchstone of bad rock and roll-based movies, but Phillips managed to avoid the critical lampooning that her bandmates received.
In the s, Phillips ditched acting to focus on her musical career. Although most of the band members were from New York City, they moved to London to become part of British "shoegazing" music scene; their sole album Popdropper was released in After the band and Phillips and Porter's brief marriage split, Phillips eventually joined another indie band, the regrettably named Ultrababyfat, and briefly worked with Australian musician Ben Lee before she auditioned in to join Luna, an established dream-pop outfit led by ex-Galaxie singer Dean Wareham.
During her time in Luna, the band released two albums, Romantica and Rendezvous , Phillips and Wareham began a romantic relationship during this period, and married in Before Luna announced their break-up in , Phillips and Wareham had begun collaborating as a duo. Wareham was working on a new album titled L'Avventura as a solo project before he decided to include Phillips after listening to a few of her demos.
After the members of Luna parted ways, Wareham and Phillips spent the following year working on film scores, most notably on Noah Baumbach's critically acclaimed "The Squid and the Whale" In that same year, Phillips returned to television once again as a voice actor in the religious parody animated series, "Moral Orel" Adult Swim , where she voiced the mother of the show's eponymous protagonist.
Afterwards, Phillips began to multitask between her work as a musician and a voice actor. In , she worked once again with the creators of "Moral Orel" to lend her voice for another program called "Mary Shelley's Frankenhole" Adult Swim while finishing up her third album with her husband, a series of impressionistic soundtracks called 13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests.

Joe: Retaliation says the film is much bigger than the rise of young Jerrica Benton Nashville 's Aubrey Peeples as a pink-haired pop princess. The music is still contagious and Jem also throws in a hefty bit of '80s nostalgia — and not just the frequent use of keytars.

I don't know what I expected going into the movie, but it wasn't a coming-of-age drama that compensates for its near plotlessness with charming and sometimes touching performances, astute observations about how today's youth use technology to deepen their sense of community and self, and some lush handheld camerawork in CinemaScope ratio! As written by Ryan Landels and directed by Jon M. Chu director of two "Step Up" films and " G. Joe: Retaliation " the film boasts lots of tight shots of people's faces lost in thought, and several self-contained, intimate musical numbers, including an a capella performance in a nightclub that has just suffered a power outage, and an impromptu song on the sand beneath a pier. The list of characters from the animated television series Jem [1] [2] as well as the live-action film Jem and the Holograms. She is the alter-ego of Jerrica Benton, the owner of Starlight Music and operator of "Starlight House", a foster home for girls later called "Starlight Mansion". Using the power of Synergy, a powerful computer with holographic capabilities, Jerrica can become Jem by touching her special star-shaped "Jemstar" earrings. Most episodes within the series feature the subplot of Jerrica hiding her identity from others, especially Rio Pacheco, her long-time boyfriend and road manager. Synergy's holograms are integral to maintaining the illusion that Jerrica and Jem are two different people. Jerrica tends to compartmentalize her life in some respects, and even occasionally shows jealousy toward her alter-ego, as Jem is able to indulge far more freely than Jerrica can as herself.

It's Synergy, a holographic projection system that can create illusions of anything, anywhere, anytime. Jerrica uses Synergy to create Jem, her alter ego and the lead singer of Jem and The Holograms to save her father's company: Starlight Music. This popular cartoon series chronicles this band's adventures as well as their arch rivals The Misfits and their friends The Stingers. The music of these three groups is definately the highlight of the show. Jem is a "truly outrageous" cartoon with a message of love, friendship, ambition, and rock-n-roll.
In her first major film role, Nashville actress Aubrey Peeples has been cast as the lead, Jem, in the live-action Jem and the Holograms film, which is being directed by Jon M.
