Enlarge Image. While I have never watched Attack on Titan, the artwork in certain parts of this episode reminded me of it. In the end, it all was fun to watch and I enjoyed it. Without telling anybody, Tatara signed himself and Chi-chan up for a contest to be able to keep his promise with Shizuku. Still, there is Aki-chan and when Tatara thinks that Chi-chan will fall back into her leading habit when faced with her old partner, he gets surprised. He faces a new Chi-chan and with it a strange phenomenon.

The Tenpei Cup may have become more intense for Tatara this week, but he and Mako still managed to make it to the finals. What happens next on the Japanese sports anime series, "Welcome to the Ballroom"?

It looks like Kiyoharu came just in time to save Tatara from himself in this week's episode. Tatara has been stressing over how he could become a good enough dancer to win his ongoing bet with Gaju. This has caused him to act on his own with very little thought to how his partner, Mako, could keep up with his moves. But Kiyoharu has just given him a wakeup call by telling him he's been competing with the wrong opponent, for the one he should defeat is not Gaju, but his partner, Shizuku.

And in order to do this, Tatara will need to make Mako into a much better dancer than the girl he has initially dreamed of partnering up with in the future. After all, ballroom dancing is done by two people who not only understand each other but are also able to complement each others' skills. By the end of the episode, Tatara finally understands this and has vowed to be Mako's frame in the upcoming final round. Will Tatara be able to help make Mako bloom?

Has his archrival just given him the most important advice he could ever get from a fellow ballroom dancer? And will this be enough to finally get him a step closer towards standing on the same stage as Kiyoharu? On the other hand, what Tatara did have going for him throughout the competition was his enthusiasm. He may have messed up in the semi-final round, but Coach Tenpei, who happened to be one of the judges, gave him a chance to advance to the final round, owing to the passion and dedication he showed on stage.

The final round is going to be tough and Tatara may not be able to survive it with just dedication alone. But he's finally learned the importance of working together with his dance partner, and this may well be the key for him and Mako to win against Gaju and Shizuku.

Apparently the manga-ka is ill and therefore the manga has been on hiatus ever since. The lastest two chapter 41 and 42 heavily focussed on the background of Akira and Chinatsu and apparently Akira is in love with Chii-chan. Even thought the current relationship between Akira and Chii-chan seems to be very bad, Akira is still in love with her former partner and boils with jealously over her relationship with Tatara. After only 4 months Chii-chan and Tatara have already developed a better and much more dynamic relationship than Akira and her partner and arguably even a closer relationshion than Akira ever had with Chii-chan. Back in their grade school days, Chii-chan hated boys and she said it was disgusting to dance with them or hold hands. Tataras crush on Shizuku is a more serious matter, but even though I shipped them before Chii-chan came into play, I would rather have her and Hyoudou funktion as rivals for Tatara and Chii-chan rather than breaking the couples up and re-arranging them. As for Tatara, I personally think his crush on Shizuku is a result from his admiration for her as a great dancer.

As much as I enjoy Welcome to the Ballroom , the pace has been slower than I anticipated. This is episode 11, and the Tenpei Cup has lasted for almost half of the series so far. So even though Tatara and Mako lost the competition, they won the bet, and Gaju and Mako pair up once more. I think removing this scene diminishes the impact of Shiziku crying in the bathroom after the competition; she lost not because Mako is a better dancer, but because she essentially sabotaged her own chances. Though his future is the main focus of episode 1, the rest of the series has focused solely on his foray into competition dancing, so the sudden reminder that, hey, entrance exams are coming up, is a bit jarring.

However, on a whim one day, he followed his beautiful classmate Hanaoka Shizuku home, which brought him to the Ogasawara Dance Studio, headed by none other than the champion ballroom dancer Sengoku Kaname! Being a young prodigy in her own right, Shizuku quickly is accosted by the hotheaded Akagi Gaju, who just broke up with Mako, his own sister, for the opportunity to dance with an incredible and gorgeous! However, Mako is distraught over losing her brother, and desperately wants him back. Mako takes home the Queen of the Ballroom prize, and Gaju honors his deal with Mako.

Mako has been dancing with her older brother ever since she was four years old with her being the one who initiated the pair's entry into the dance world. She wanted to do ballroom dance with her older brother to be with her, but she was too shy to ask herself so her mother did it for her. Gaju rejected the idea as he thought that dancing was a girly thing. When her brother was playing football, some of his friends noticed and pointed to him that Mako was there watching them. He then went near her and told her that she had to go because his friends couldn't have seen him holding a girl's hand, so she went away. He told her she shouldn't have been there, but she instead wanted to check more closely. She watched in awe, amazed at the sight of the skirts swirling around, and said that she wanted to be pretty like the woman who was dancing.

'Welcome to the Ballroom' Episode 9 Spoilers: Tatara Helps Mako Shine in Tenpei Cup's Final Round

And Ballroom e Youkoso is definitely improving, and steadily too. I noted last week that Welcome to the Ballroom is quite distinctly a product of shounen tradition which was not intended as either insult or compliment, just an observation. In the first place neither the Gaju-Mako or Hyodo-Shizuku pairings were present, as they were off competing in Germany — which threw Tatara-kun off his game considerably. The performance was a mixed bag, and ended up with a withdrawal after the first round.
