Hare Tonic is a Warner Bros. Elmer Fudd has purchased Bugs Bunny at a local grocery store with a sign visible in the window offering a special on " Fresh Hare " and is taking him home to make a meal. Bugs Bunny

Elmer brings Bugs home for dinner. To save himself, Bugs tricks Elmer into thinking there is a terrible outbreak of Rabbititus. Mel Blanc Arthur Q. Warner Bros. English French.

Review by Hatercles. People were upset that in Space Jam 2 Bugs Bunny refers to his fellow Tunes, even adversaries, as friends. But look here: Bugs easily arranges his escape early on, but stays to screw with Elmer.

This is fun for him. Perhaps the truth is that for Bugs, a friend is someone who wants to kill him that he fucks with mercilessly. Bugs avoids becoming Elmer's dinner through a simple, typically smart-alecky move, but chooses not to escape Elmer's house because, as he tells the audience, it's a set up too good to waste.

So he stays and tortures Elmer who, after all, tried to make rabbit stew out of Bugs. Cue a series of hilarious gags constructed out of physics defying animation, Carl Stalling's music score and Mel Blanc and Arthur Q. Bryan's he does Elmer voice acting. They liberally reference pop culture Stalling's score riffs on well-known pop songs and classical music and frequently break the fourth wall, including the elaborate final joke where Bugs tries to convince the audience they have Rabbititus.

Bugs pretends to be 'Dr Killpatient' and, in another scene, Elmer's reflection in a sequence inspired by the Marx Brothers' mirror sequence in Duck Soup. It's rich, heady stuff delivered at breakneck speed. Review by Mr. Tell me, Mr. Do you have any rabbit inclinations?

That's what Bugs Bunny tells the audience in this second Chuck Jones cartoon to feature the duo of Bugs and Elmer Fudd when he learns of the latter's intentions, after purchasing him from a grocery store having a sale on "Fresh Hare" how did Bugs find himself there in the first place?

This is the one that ends with Bugs breaking the fourth wall and diagnosing everyone in the audience with "rabbitosis. Bugs convinces Elmer and has a go at convincing us that he has Rabbititus. Some great transformations, the usual blistering pace and some good breaking of the fourth wall. I gotta go back and heckle that character! The physical comedy and wordplay comes fast and furious in this one, probably the strongest Bugs Bunny short up to this point.

Was reminded of an argument on Twitter about if Looney Tunes is TV or film during the scene where Bugs referred to the audience as if they were in a theater. Anyone who claims it's TV is wrong in even more ways than ever. Case closed. Elmer, Bugs, and a disregard for the laws of physics always make for a good time, and this is one of their best works. Hare Tonic

I have often told eager students that the easiest way to draw him is probably to draw a carrot and then hook a rabbit onto it. However, I usually begin a drawing of Bugs with the tiny triangle that passes as the nose. The ears and eyes are located on imaginary lines leading out from the angles of the nose. Bugs is actually a bit cross-eyed, but we never made a point of that. If I am in a generous mood, I allow him three whiskers, in spite of Leon Schlesinger [the original producer of Looney Tunes], who thought we could save money by using only two. Bugs has very heavy cheeks, which cover up a lot of his mouth, and that leaves me very little of the mouth to work with, even though the small visible section of the mouth is vital to an understanding of his character. When he is happy, the inference is that the smile goes way up under the cheeks.

Bugs Bunny is the undisputed king of the Warner Bros. Bugs' endless supply of carrots, relentlessly smart-aleck nature and trademark catchphrase — "Eh, what's up, doc? Whether he's singing Wagnerian opera, stealing carrots from the Sheriff of Nottingham, stowing away on a rocket ship to Mars or taking the stage as a concert pianist, Bugs always comes out ahead!
