Following the success of Ghostbusters: Afterlife last fall, Sony is bringing the franchise back to the small screen. Variety reports that Netflix is developing a new Ghostbusters animated series.
Afterlife co-writers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan will executive produce. Sony Pictures Animation leads the charge on the series. Apparently, more announcements could also happen later today. The original Ghostbusters animated series, The Real Ghostbusters — named because Filmation also had an unrelated Ghostbusters cartoon based on an earlier use of the trademark — debuted in It featured the same characters introduced in the first Ghostbusters film two years prior though not voiced by the actors who played them on the big screen.

Was a mustache really that hard to create on an action figure? You almost expect his jaw to come unhinged and see it work up and down in a dummy-like fashion to be honest. Venkman is another quandary since unlike his real-life counterpart Bill Murray the action figure looks to be in pretty good shape and looks more like the typical movie star stereotype that Murray is not, thankfully. The soundtrack was good enough, based mainly on the strength of Ray Parker Jr. Which is what makes this revisitation over 25 years later so interesting. While the soundtrack has a couple of awesome songs, it also feels very utilitarian. For instance, even with the two Elmer Bernstein pieces and the theme instrumental, there are only a total of ten tracks!
