At any rate, The Prophecy of the Throne is an easy to digest visual novel with fun artwork and good voice acting, with a bit of turn-based gameplay thrown in for good measure.

That said, the interactive gameplay elements, though shallow, are welcome, and the English dub is par excellence. A single playthrough took me about 14 hours, and there is only one ending. Fans will likely enjoy the new content, newcomers can enjoy it, though execution leaves something to be desired. Simply replacing the gameplay sections with character interactions would likely go far, especially when they do very little to sell the concept.

This game is not for you and makes utterly no effort to bring newcomers up to speed. Re:ZERO The Prophecy of the Throne sort of retells Arc 3, which is volumes three through nine of the light novels and pretty much the entire second half of the first season of the anime. The story focuses predominately on Subaru and Rem because she follows him everywhere going around and talking to people. But going through the multiple death loops of the story again might be a little less attractive than it could be. Yes, there are a fair number of sections where you control a super-deformed 3D Subaru as he moves through familiar locations.

The video reveals the English voice cast for the game's new characters. Physical copies of the Day One Edition of the game will bundle four exclusive pins featuring Emilia, Subaru, Rem, and a new character. The Collector's Edition will include the pins, a SteelBook case, a soundtrack CD, and an art book with concept art, sketches, and commentary. The game will center on the Royal Selection storyline from the anime's first season, but will contain entirely new "what-if" events, with plot supervision by original author Tappei Nagatsuki. I believe that games based on books, comics, or manga have great potential because they usually have a solid narrative basis, yet, paradoxically, they tend to be utterly disappointing. While it includes an intriguing story, the talent of many of the anime series voice actors, and the addition of brand-new characters, it falls short in all of its game-specific aspects. Among all the residents of the mansion, his most cherished friend is Emilia, a silvered-haired girl who happens to be one of the candidates to become the next ruler of the Kingdom of Lugunica.
