Top Cat and the gang want to impress Benny's visiting mother by making her think that Benny is mayor. When the police captain comes for inspection, not only is the alley clean, but Top Cat also offers such good suggestions for improving the police force that he is made honorary sergeant.
Choo-Choo, who has a crush on the girl next door, saves her from muggers -- to the dismay of her boyfriend. Top Cat and the gang rescue Benny -- who has swallowed the Hopeless Diamond -- from crooks who want to operate on him to recover the jewel.
Top Cat and the gang invite themselves to spend a cold night at Dibble's apartment, but they put him out on the fire escape because his snoring keeps them awake. Benny is followed home by a lovable anteater, but Top Cat discovers there is a reward for its return, so they set off for the zoo. A dog catcher comes along and nabs the anteater. Top Cat and the gang find a baby and decide to keep him so the baby won't have to grow up in an orphanage.
Earnest Prowler, an overly enthusiastic new cop, convinces his uncle, the sergeant, that the neighborhood is a hotbed of crime, causing Dibble to be fired. While the police commissioner and two top citizens are investigating Top Cat's new tourist attraction, Choo-Choo follows his cent treasure map to an old, condemned building. When Dibble reports for his birthday physical exam, he is dismayed to hear the sergeant discussing old wrecks that he wants taken off the police force.
So Top Cat devises a scheme of his own. Officer Dibble will win a vacation if he can beat Iron Man Muldoon's record of consecutive days on the force. From Hanna-Barbera, Top Cat is one clever and charming cat Always ready with a quip or a hustle, this cat with a porkpie hat rules the alleys of New York City with his fellow felines, poking fun at the hapless Officer Dibble.
It's a good thing cats have nine lives, for the way Top Cat makes trouble, he's going to need them! I freaking loved this show. I remember watching this on boomerang an I loved itbever sence I was 7. It is funnybas heck and itbis one of the first primetime animated shows. Also it is made by hanna barbera. With them I expect greatness.

Dibble fits in with Ranger Smith, Mr. Slate, Mr. Spacely and even going up through Mr. Peebles in "Magilla Gorilla" as the regular characters who were supposed to be the heavies in the stories, but who the audience wasn't supposed to strongly dislike. The same can't be said for the H-B heavies in their later shows.
