When Charli XCX arrives, to a room already at a deranged frenzy from her off-handedly throwing some of her big tunes away as intro music, she opens with two of her finest songs. Right from the clanging jerkiness of Lightning fizzing off the stage, and Gone, all stuttering claustrophobic bass, it's a performance of ballistic, victory-lap greatness. As the set is made up primarily of tunes off her latest album, it does mean that, when sandwiched between the recently released Crash and New Shapes, her forays into her older work, like Boom Clap and Boys, look a touch adolescent by comparison, a bit of a wonky fit in the future-facing experimentalism of her later work, the latter of which manages to scan, but the former ends up feeling like a misstep.

With the release of multiple mixtapes Number 1 Angel, Pop 2 and her latest full-length Charli, she has built up a large community of collaborators and created a liberating party atmosphere around herself and her music. Fans started lining up for Charli's show at The Club as early as AM in hopes of getting one of the meet-and-greet wristbands reserved for the first 50 in line, but even if you weren't one of those lucky few, everyone in attendance was rewarded with a remarkable night of music. Slayyyter opened for Charli's DC show, and it is safe to say that Charli fans are almost as enthusiastic about her as they are about Charli. Slayyyter joined Charli on stage to perform the No Boys Remix of "Click," which was released less than a week before the show.

Stranger Things is set to return to our screens from 27th May for a fourth and final season. So far the excitement has been built with photos and a trailer having been released, along with one of the cast teasing that this will be the "most bizarre" season yet. Charli XCX is undeniably one of my favourite artists and being able to see her perform live for the second time was a dream come true. She certainly did not disappoint. Kicking off the evening, the support act Yeule gave a half an hour set of entrancing tracks.
