In Feast , a Boston terrier named Winston feeds on the treats his master tosses him: bacon and eggs, pizza, nachos — all the snacks a single man thrives on. An epic animated film adapted from the groundbreaking comic by Gingerhazing pic. Talk about a pleasant update to kick off a Monday! Depictions of gender in media are often scrutinized for stereotypical patterns. The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to assess gender depictions of characters in animated Disney films released between and ; 61 films with characters total , and second, to explore depictions of gender in Disney animated films coupled with an analysis of the gender of those involved in the production of these films producers, directors, and writers. Male characters were more often represented as parents or children in films written by women, and female characters were more often represented as the antagonist in films written by men. The 30 Best Disney Animated Movies You Should Watch

Disney's upcoming animated film Big Hero 6 , about a boy and his soft robot and a gang of super-powered friends , is perhaps the largest big-budget mash-up you'll ever see. Every aspect of the film's production represents a virtual collision of worlds. The story, something co-director Don Hall calls "one of the more obscure titles in the Marvel universe," has been completely re-imagined for parent company Disne y. Then, there's the city of San Fransokyo it's set in -- an obvious marriage of two of the most tech-centric cities in the world. And, of course, there's the real-world technology that not only takes center stage as the basis for characters in the film, but also powered the onscreen visuals. It's undoubtedly a herculean effort from Walt Disney Animation Studios, and one that's likely to go unnoticed by audiences. We made the movie on a beta renderer," says Hank Driskill, technical supervisor for Big Hero 6. It's just one of about three dozen tools the studio used to bring the robotics-friendly world of San Fransokyo to life. Some, like the program Tonic originally created for Rapunzel's hair in Tangled, are merely improved versions of software built for previous efforts, or "shows" as Disney calls them. And its feasibility wasn't always a sure thing, something Disney's Chief Technology Officer Andy Hendrickson underscores when he says, "It's the analog to building a car while you're driving it.

I used to take the Peter Pan bus between Washington, D. Doubtfire , The Man Without a Face , that kind of thing. After a few trips, I noticed a curious pattern. All the movies on board seemed somehow to feature children lost or adrift, kids who had metaphorically fallen out of their prams. The mothers in the movies were either gone or useless.

Wait, what? At the intersection of Disney and Marvel, in a pan-Pacific megalopolis spanning San Francisco and Tokyo, in a world with one foot in science fiction and one in superhero adventure, is Big Hero 6. By my lights, this is a very good place to be. Yet Planes , in its modest way, cannily avoids the pitfalls that made those films unsatisfying. Mother Gothel in Tangled is bad kidnapping, brainwashing.

Walt Disney World has confirmed the closure of yet another attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios, but this one played a role in creating several of Disney's animated classics. The Magic of Disney Animation , once home to the studio that created films like "Mulan," "Lilo and Stitch" and "Brother Bear," and contributed animation to other Disney animated features, will close for good Sunday, July 12 , a Disney spokeswoman confirmed Monday. Work is underway on a new experience, and we look forward to sharing more information in the future. The building was home to Walt Disney Feature Animation's Florida division, and guests at what was then Disney-MGM Studios could watch the animators at work through glass windows above their studios. After the Florida division which shut down in , but a hands-on Animation Station remained in the building, including the Animation Academy, where guests could learn how to draw a Disney character, and a 9-minute film about how Disney's animated characters are made, co-hosted by "Mulan's" Mushu the dragon. The Magic of Disney Animation building has also been home to character meet-and-greets with Mickey Mouse in his "Sorcerer's Apprentice" hat and cloak from "Fantasia," as well as a frequently-changing spot where guests could meet characters from recently released Disney films like "Winnie the Pooh," "Wreck-It Ralph" and, most recently, "Big Hero 6.

Back then, John Lasseter and the new creative team were just getting things realigned after the previous decade had left things somewhat in disarray. Now Lasseter is out, following a scandal that alleged sexual impropriety, and Jennifer Lee is ushering in a new series of films from diverse and hugely talented filmmakers. Arguably, the movies coming out of Disney Animation these days rival the so-called Disney Renaissance from the late '80s to early '90s. Where did your favorite land?
