I would've liked the kiss a little bit more if it wasn't treated like this tbh.

Like, in the scene it feels like it's just any other kiss but it's actually a very important change on Rei and Hina's relationship. For a moment I even thought "wait, were they going out before? Hina took the kiss as if it was nothing so I wonder". I still dislike the couple cause Rei is 19 and Hina 15 and she looks even younger lol but still. I'm happy it's happened at long, long last, but it feels like the kiss came completely out of nowhere I was honestly confused how we got from the conversation they were having, to Rei wiping Hina's face and then kissing her and it's given basically no weight whatsoever, acting as if it almost didn't even happen.

A nonchalant kiss scene wouldn't be a problem, but one that doesn't even feel like it flows with the scene is a little odd, to say the least. I felt so warm inside after that kiss without any hint. It feels so natural. Big surprise moments like this need to be felt naturaly without exaggeration. Like, they both knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. This chapter sure made up for all the waiting! Yaay finally another chapter, and it had a surprise kiss! It was really enjoyable, I like those everyday moments in the Kawamoto family.

I'm okay, to be honest the last chapters started to tire me, so it was refreshing to see their relationship blossom into fully romantic, also has potential for conflict not with the sisters mind you, the absentee father.

Looking forward to Akari's future romance prospects. RottenOrange said: I would've liked the kiss a little bit more if it wasn't treated like this tbh. After 2 years since we finally get the resolution and oh boy is it great. The last arc's where not as good as early 3-gatsu but with this it yet again has full potential for new drama which Umino is great at, or a potential ending for the Manga.

Dude, i can't believe this just happened. Yet again this show has made me drop my jaw. This was just an incredible way to surprise us about how far their relationship developed offscreen.

So, when will we get the next chapter? Anytime soon? Oh dear it was too sudden, I didn't expect it. In another note I woud have finished the puzzle in less than 8 hours I am proud of my useless ability to finish them quickly and I do the same as Rei, patterns and pieces. Hooray for kisses and handholding Big Sis had a great idea to get them alone. Well that was unexpected. I wanted to see it, and seeing it happen in a small panel has left exactly the impact I wanted. Enough to at least make me mentally clench my fist and go "YES! Still, it felt good seeing that. Just hope we get someone good well, either sensei is good for Akari.

Likes: A good story, characters, writing, romance, a good plot twist or something that breaks expectations In a good way , 'backstory' and justice. Dislikes: Bad romance, too much fanservice, the harem genre, yuri, yaoi, and bad writing.

The way the kiss scene was handled is the reason why I love 3-gatsu no Lion and Umino-sensei I mean, there wasn't any need for blushing and "shojo" stuff, it felt natural. I'm feeling so warm and fuzzy right now. Oh, this was such a good chapter. I feel the kiss scene was great. A lot of people haven't mentioned it, but the kiss scene is meant to show that they're used to this, this isn't their first kiss.

We know it's been 2 months in-canon since Rei confessed his feelings to Hina, so this scene is pretty much here to tell us that they've been dating off-screen since then, and now they feel completely confortable with each other. I actually really love this, because most manga tend to not show how relationships in their everydaylifes are.

But here we have Rei and Hina, just casually talking about their lifes, giving themselves a small smooch, and move on. The way they're so confotable with each other doing these things is beatiful. I've seen people saying this doesn't feel like a first kiss, and you're right, it isn't. Fuck, I have caught up and now part of the waiting gang can't believe this series has been going on for 13 years now.

I love this series so much it's going to be hard to wait for chapters. As for the chapter, we were just watching them have fun build puzzles and stuff and then bam we got a kiss.

Man, my heart can't take this shit it's so good. That definitely isn't their first kiss, argh can't wait for the next chapter. The kissing caught me off guard, it really shook me I got spoiled by my twitter muts.

So I decided to pick up the manga again. Omg it finally happened!! I am happy for both of them. Looking on Akari's romance after this, but it looks like we need to wait 2 months again for the next chapter..

Well, it's off-topic but Akari and her future prospects have a huge age difference and I don't like that kinda love. Shimada and the teacher going for her seems totally off but since it fiction I'll let it slide but doesn't feel nice maybe a year-old person would have been good.

I just can't or want to ship them, REi and Hina age gap is justifiable. As I recall, Rei missed out only one year, so since he's a 3rd year to Hina's 1st year, that makes a three year difference in their ages. As for Shimada and Hayashida, I thought the both of them were at least I didn't expect that kiss from Rei, he's making some moves!. They just kissed ouuta no where!! That caught me off guard so bad. Maa man just went for it. A part of me is glad, that they didn't make a big deal out of it, like many other slice of life, drama series, but the other part wants to see the embarrassed look on their face.

And they fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally kissed. I can rest easy now. It took reading 75 chapters from the end of S2 of the anime but what I suspected finally occurred. They're great together. That fucking caught me off guard. I did not see that coming at all. Hina and Rei should have never been romantically connected. Like is that considered personal growth?

I kiss under the bridge, amazing!!! Hello, my litte boy! That caught me off guard. They did it, didn't they? Hahaha, YES! I like how Umino-sensei handled the kiss. Treating it like it was normal for them to do so. Hina also received it gleefully and continued with them holding their hands. It makes me wonder whether they've done it before or it's because Hina is still too childish to understand. But I like it regardless. Damn, didn't see that coming there! Well played, Kiriyama. Anime4Life be my Life Motto!

Shit that kiss got me grinning hard. There's no way that's bs lol how romantic of u Kiriyama.

Opinions on Rei/Hina [MANGA SPOILERS]

There is a mobile optimized version of this page, view AMP Version. The remainder of the episode tries to build an answer. Perhaps unsurprisingly for a show with such a flair for emotional storytelling, Sangatsu delivers a truly touching and heartfelt moment that nails it perfectly. Bullies excel at abusing power structures and once these are removed or changed, much of their ability to cause harm is removed also. There are numerous high-school anime that portray bullying, but few come close to being as realistic as Sangatsu no Lion. This ties in with what we know about Rei holding himself responsible for events he could not have changed. Why try? Because, as Hina explains, his actions made all the difference to her when she was at her lowest point.

However, there are very rare instances when an anime got me sniveling and laughing at the same time. Regardless, nothing is too late for anything, granted that 3-gatsu displayed yet again another emotional visualization of feels this episode. Like, someone is trying to get your guard down by making you laugh and comfortable, but later on will punch you in the gut with a glove of feelers. There is a specific moment this episode wherein the tone suddenly shifted from good-humored to downright depressing, and it all started with a panoramic view of the bridge, followed by a deafening silence, and then BAM. Unnerving, heavy, far-away… it all boils down into one baggage of emotions, further punctuating the on-coming dialogue between two characters sharing an intricately similar relationship with shogi.

Though the franchise has many wonderful characters which is, by far, its greatest strength , my absolute favourite is Rei Kiriyama.

Usually when a show makes their protagonist disappear for a whole episode the word filler is the first thing that comes to mind and yet episode 34 of March Comes in Like a Lion shows us how it should be done. Rei makes no appearance in this episode which is largely narrated by Hina and focuses on the events in her classroom after the field trip. After the teacher leaves the school and the head teacher takes over the class it finally seems like someone is going to acknowledge that there is a problem but that leads to Akari needing to attend the school. Yet, when Akari buckles under the weight of that burden, Hina is again the one who stands up tall. Also, the new opening and ending songs are fantastic. Bullies, Bystanders, and the Cost of Love for Hina Kawamoto

I wrote a little essay on this 3-gatsu ship, if anyone wishes to hear my thoughts on another, please inform me! I could say so much more, if anyone wishes to hear. I adore how passionate Rei can be, like how in the recent chapter, he very matter-of-factly told Hina that he missed her every moment — he has a truly romantic heart, yet in the next moment, he can be completely flustered and overjoyed when he sweeps up Hina by the water into an embrace. From the beginning, she always idolized Akari — she is very beautiful and kind-hearted, of course, but she nearly envies her, as she perceives Akari to be akin to a nearly perfect savior. Therefore, she concludes that Rei would be better suited for Akari and that she could better care for him, then Hina, as Akari has always had the role of caretaker. But even so, Rei loves her and has stood by her side, which Hina fully recognizes at the end of season II, when she is recollecting her thoughts of lost loved ones. There has always been this lingering fear she cannot hold onto everyone, but she believes Akari can, which leaves her in unfortunate denial and lack of conviction within herself.

Not tragic, mind you, but sad yes. Even if you can tell the pieces apart, and understand the rules, shogi is a game that takes a certain skill level to even appreciate a lot of emphasis is placed on understanding the board as a whole; like you should be able to tell what sort of a game is going on and what pieces are in play just from looking at a board between turns. And again, that is a LOT of this manga.

Not only is it stressful, but it make it that much harder to get the things that I need to get done, done. I have gone into detail about this in a number of previous posts, but since I have never really done a character specific post outside of writing for OWLS, I thought it would be good to take some time and focus on why exactly Rei Kiriyama is so compelling. Arguably the strongest reason is because of how well his character highlights issues of mental health. Throughout his journey in series, Rei deals with depression, abuse from his step-family, professional slumps due to his lost love for Shogi, and a lot of overwhelming defeats. Despite all of this, however, Rei never gives into these negative feelings, and learns to rely on the others around him who become his new family, namely the Kawamoto sisters. A good example of this comes from after his loss to Shimada.

Despite this similarity, the game is intrinsically Japanese, having failed to gain momentum overseas as playing is dependent on reading characters to identify specific pieces.
