Katanagatari destruction of 12 swords

When the topic of great anime is broached , Katanagatari is often an afterthought -- if a thought at all. The series adapts from the light novel series of the same name, blending action and romance with gripping storytelling, while Studio White Fox's wildly unique production values really bring the novels to life. It is honestly criminal that 10 years later, Katanagatari remains only a cult classic, as the series is a must-watch not just for anime fans, but fans of great storytelling and art in general. Anime fans that continue to leave Katanagatari on the back-burner are doing a disservice to themselves. Allow us to convince you why. Katanagatari is a title befitting this series, as the literal translation "sword tale" pretty much sums up the premise.

I actually rather enjoyed the troll, but they beat the punchline for far too long. If you're gonna waste 5 minutes of my life not exciting me with an action sequence, at least reward me with something else, because rubbing a troll in my face for 5 minutes is more than teasing.

You're definitely right about the verbosity. Nisio's brand of dialogue is best in small doses and when paced in a snappy fashion. It's no longer a parody of overly-verbose shounen, but has fallen into the trope itself. Still a good background watch, but doesn't really capture the attention often.

What happen to the episode, I looked back in the preview for 4 they actually had fought for the 4th sword the needle. However instead we watched the main character sister show how terrifying she really is and the deaths of the insect corps and wonder where is the battle for the needle that's what really wanted to see.

I agree about the dialogue being a bit too heavy I was watching it while tired too, didn't help. That was an epic troll, I didn't figure it out until late in the episode. This episode was crazy. Katanagatari is some of the best stuff I've seen in a while. You can't even call it shounen because the dialogue is too incredible at times. Every episode so far has been mind blowing.

At the beginning there was an air of innocence but now things are intense. Those poor maniwa insect squad dudes got destroyed by the dudes sadist older sister. It feels like it's been a while, but episode four of Katanagatari is upon us to continue its overly-verbose tale of powerful swords and the collection thereof.

With three swords in the bag, it's time for Shichika Yasuri to make a bid for blade number four, which is currently in the hands of one Sabi Hakuhei - Supposedly Japan's strongest swordsman. If that sounds like we're all set for an epic battle between an ultra-strong swordsman and Kyotouryuu expert, then The reason for this is that there's something far more interesting going on alongside Togame and Shichika's quest this time around, which comes in the form of yet more employees of the Maniwa Corps, and more precisely their "insect squad", which takes floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee to a whole new level.

The trio of ninjas which make up this squad have been tasked with stopping Shichika's progress by kidnapping his sister Nanami and using her as a hostage - A sound plan on the surface, and a gloriously simple one at that.

However, this plan has been drafted without any knowledge of Nanami's own abilities, and so as their confrontation with her begins so we gain a first-hand demonstration of just what she's capable of - Never mind the sweet and mild-mannered girl we saw back in episode one, Nanami seems to be shooting for the top of the "yandere" league once she's confronted with any sort of hostile danger. I won't spoil things any more than that, but needless to say she makes for a more impressive foe than first meets the eye.

Of course, despite all of this fighting and use of ninja techniques, Katanagatari 's real focus continues to be on its dialogue, which can make for an overly elongated affair at times, with far too much use of monologue and dialogue where actions would speak louder than words. Then again, on the other hand Nisio Isin's writing continues to be delightful on occasion, so for all of that verbal diarrhoea we do get some genuinely excellent and hugely funny moments, coupled with the kind of nice little plot twists that manage to make things most entertaining indeed.

This does however confirm my suspicions that Katanagatari would probably work better as a more traditional anime series with twenty-minute episodes rather than the format it makes use of here - Despite those great moments they're simply too few and far between much of the time, leaving you looking at your watch occasionally wondering when the next "good bit" is likely to come along.

Luckily the best bits are most certainly worth waiting for, and this episode as a whole was oddly fascinating on account of Nanami's turn as nothing short of some kind of demonic big sister, but those dialogue-induced frustrations do continue to take the sheen of some of this series better points, particularly when it teases us about a major fight by simply chatting about it for five minutes over some dumplings.

It's hard to believe it's been a year since we started this project. And in Katanagatari-worth irony, I am ending this project the same way I started it - sleep deprived and exhausted. Behold the finale to a year of labor: Katanagatari 12 This has been one of the hardest but satisfying projects Mazui has ever done. I ended up crying in the end, as it was heartbreaking to see Togame be so dismissive of her own worth. Togame really believes it — she feels that her corrupted revenge seeking heart, has absolutely no right to love Shichika, who despite the amount of blood staining his hands including that of his only family , remains remarkably pure. Some part of Togame surely hated Shichika for that as much as she ultimately came to love him for it. Of course Shichika breezes through the new wielders of the 11 Deviant Blades he collected — but I was just as surprised as Hitei at how quickly and easily he managed to clear them all. The only challenge is of course presented by Emonzaemon. Finally we have Hitei — the mastermind behind this entire swordhunt and the descendant of Kiki Shikizaki who started the whole show of by creating his Deviant Blades and attempted to change history. Hitei seems to just want to bring this whole saga her family has been concerned about to an end, so she can get on with her own life.

The main focus of the story is the gathering of twelve distinct katanas that were crafted by Kiki Shikizaki , a reclusive swordsmith. His bladework had been widely popular during the last war, but only twelve of the many swords he forged are rumored to have been specially crafted via alchemy, the occult, and other supernatural means. Although called "katana", not all of them are such, for they have different forms; such as a suit of armor, a dagger, and a pair of handguns. The reason for their "Deviant" label is that the people wielding them are prone to being effected by their "poison" and will do anything to keep their katana to themselves, which is the case of most of their current wielders. Each of the blades has a distinct feature or ability that makes them the strongest.

Am I exceptionally hard on shows like Katanagatari, or exceptionally easy on them? Very rarely do I finish a show with as much spite as I did this one. No Name and I watched it together and found that a very difficult activity; but not, for the most part, an offensive one.
