‘Rick and Morty’ Review: Summer Takes Center Stage in a ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Therapy Session

So, although we recently wrote a 5K word Rick and Morty fan theory guide we're finding we still have so much have more to say. Quick nerdy item before we get into all of the amazing references and jokes, in the opening line of Rickmancing the Stone , the "Colorkians," are mentioned making them the 79th alien race mentioned on Rick and Morty. We just thought you'd enjoy that little, tasty nibblet. White, who Rick mentions in an offhand joke after being corrected about the Bloodome, was a contributor to The New Yorker magazine and a co-author of the English language style guide The Elements of Style.

We also couldn't help ourselves and had to take a look at Google Trends for search terms surrounding EB. Not unlike the McDonald's szechuan sauce freakout, Rick and Morty is a huge impact. We loved this whole scene so much that it made the cut for our Rick and Morty T-shirt collection.

B White" T-shirt from CultSub. The episode title Rickmancing the Stone is a reference to the film about a search for a precious gem called Romancing the Stone with Micheal Douglas and Kathleen Turner.

A special note for all you young nerds out there; the episode's first car chase isn't just a Mad Max: Fury Road reference. Actually, this entire chase scene is actually quite similar although condensed to the original chase scene from Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

So, the reference is actually deeper than it seems at first blush which we love. Multiple, yet very specific characters from the various Mad Max films appear in Rickmancing the Stone. I have to say that we nerded out pretty hard on this one once we saw the first few obvious ones like Immortan Joe.

This one slapped us in the face when we saw it the first time as Bearclaw Mohawk even rides on the front end of the vehicle.

See him there with the blue mohawk and pink tips riding on the front of the car? In this same snapshot from Rick and Morty above we see three character references from the Mad Mad series, some are just more obvious than others. Hemorrhage is an obviously "The Humungus" who was the leader of a merciless and psychotic motorcycle gang of marauders that took dominance long after Toecutter's gang.

It only flashes for a second once Rick, Morty and Summer and invited back to camp, but we what we think is Nux and his mates Larry and Barry. He even drew smiley faces on them making them this oddly sweet and helping us fall for Nux as the movie progressed.

Finally, we also have a "War Boy" right in front when we arrive back at camp huffing paint, a well-known activity from Mad Max. Actually, remember when Rick portals home and a character comes with him? Finally, when Summer's neighbor reveals she's pregnant, she makes a reference to the famous Mad Max line, "two men enter, one man leaves" which is a nod to Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.

One of the mutants who Morty fights in the Blood Dome the one with a traffic cone on his head appears to be a zombie from the popular game series Plants vs. The post-apocalyptic city Summer and Hemorrhage travel to features multiple Seattle landmarks, including Pike Place Market. This is more of a fun fact than a reference, but we loved it.

Remember when Rick selects bicep as his lunch? Rick also casually mentions trichinosis, which is an infection caused by roundworms found in raw or under-cooked meat. A well done and funny little joke we loved as well. I mean, we could go on and on, but these are just some of our favorite moments, jokes and crazy-ass awesome references found in the Rick and Morty Romancing the Stone episode.

Zombies, Pike Place Market and Trichinosis.

After Summer kills their leader, Rick uses the opportunity of being on a new planet by attempting to swindle a rare mineral that can conduct electricity. Unfortunately, the Death Stalkers refuse to let Rick leave with it, so he decides to stay in town for a couple of weeks and even provide a neighborhood with sustainable electricity for a time. I hope you kids are full of the Szechuan sauce bit from the first episode of Rick and Morty Season Three and are ready to spot some more entertaining story tropes and gags from the nineties because they are here! I do hope we get a bit more variety in future episodes in terms of ideas on story and episode structure. Skip to content July 11, Is this series like a stone?

Now that the third season of Rick and Morty has drawn to a close, the time has come to debate about which episode was the best, and which was the worst or in other terms, which is the most Schwifty and the least Schwifty. The Rickchurian Mortydate has a promising start but a rather disappointing ending, that really falls flat on its face. It highlights how much everyone overlooks Jerry as a character, and really progresses the relationship between Rick and Jerry. Rickmancing the Stone, or as I like to call it, the episode that everyone hates, is a great episode. The episode ends with both of them having found some sort of closure, and it really is good to see that. Pickle Rick is the most mainstream, most memed and most action-filled episode of the season, and it is excellent. This meme will not die just yet. The episode even ends with the ultimate cliffhanger of the season, which is still unresolved in the season finale.

L ast night, disappointed viewers waited with baited breath as the Eastern hour came and went with no Rick and Morty season 3 episode 2. After April Fool's day, and Adult Swim's what seemed like 10 hours of back to back Rick and Morty season 3 episode 1 repeats, we were all expecting episode 2 to be coming soon. In fact, there were widespread reports that it would premiere on May 13 and it didn't , and then again on May But no Rick. Instead we had another repeat episode of season 2.

Airing only Rickshank Rickdemption would have been a hollow season opener so Adult Swim made the wise decision to drop two episodes of Rick and Morty today.

Rick and Morty Season 3 Episode 2 Review – ‘Rickmancing The Stone’

What's Rick gonna do? This is a real episode right here broh. Morty goes ham too broh. Classic stuff. Pickle Rick too. It has action and heroes.

Review: Rick and Morty “Rickmancing the Stone”

The possibilities for the science-fiction genre are seemingly endless, and yet so many sci-fi stories cover the same ground. But Rick and Morty is also sharply, sometimes darkly funny, offering up a variety of ridiculous, crude, and hilarious situations and moments. The show endures, however, because of its heart. That is what makes Rick and Morty far more than a raunchy cartoon or strange sci-fi series. With that in mind, I went back and revisited all the Rick and Morty episodes from the first three seasons and ranked them from worst to best, in an effort to further dive into what makes this show special episode by episode. But there was certainly enough here to show promise for the series to come, and the show absolutely understood the dynamic between Rick and Morty from the start—this is a relationship in which Rick will ask his grandson to shove alien seeds waaaaaay up his butt. As is true of most of these early episodes, the domestic stuff is a bit iffy, but again the lengths to which Roiland and Harmon are willing to take a silly premise like a talking dog make Rick and Morty a very twisted cut above. It does, however, go off on a high note with Rick breaking the fourth wall to dance and tease Season 2.

I was a little worried after the second episode of the season though; “Rickmancing the Stone” was almost bland, especially considering what.

Rick And Morty Season 3, Episode 2 Review: Witness Me! Shiny And Schwifty

Ranking the adventures of Rick and Morty is a lot like having to rank the top Olympian sprinters of all time: On paper, first place is extraordinary, but all the other contestants, including those in last, are only a hair less remarkable. Creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have made it nearly impossible to resist the universe's most-wanted grandpa and his anxious-as-hell grandson-cum-sidekick, winning fans over by exposing their characters to gory horrors and painting a thought-provoking portrait of depression that rivals BoJack Horseman 's. In honor of the duo's beloved hijinks -- and the long-awaited first half of Season 4 -- we've ranked every episode so far not including the " Non-Canonical Adventures " from "worst" to best. Get riggidy riggidy wrecked on this list, son!

Four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, dinosaurs now live and hunt alongside humans all over the world.

Well, it could clue us to the setup or a quick joke in the storyline — or it might just explain the plot of the entire episode. The clear reference, however, is to Romancing the Stone. Romancing the Stone is a action-adventure romantic comedy that feels very similar to the original Indiana Jones movies, though it has a slightly more satirical bent. A romance-adventure novelist Kathleen Turner travels to Colombia to save her sister and follow a treasure map. Though all hope of riches seems lost when an alligator swallows the gem whole along with a person , and Jack dives after it. Jack gets that gem, and the leads get their happy ending. Either way, there will more than likely be some kind of exotic gemstone that Rick will want to get his hands on, and Morty will likely get bogged down in the ethics of it all and develop a crush on some girl, as he tends to do.

All kids cope with divorce differently. Some retreat, others lash out — and a rare few thrust themselves into a Mad Max -style dimension to work out their aggression through mindless bloodshed. I think we all knew which avenue Rick and Morty was going to take.
