With regards to this episode specifically, the relationship between Jin and Misaki was the first that was being explored as a romantic one, and oh boy, has it been a rather tumultuous relationship. The conclusion to this episode, in particular, was one that was painfully predictable, yet satisfying in the sense that the romance between Jin and Misaki finally got the closure it deserved. While the conclusion was predictable, the path to the said goal was a tension filled one, where the story kept teasing a potential worst-case outcome time and time again. The constant teasing of potential disaster in their relationship did do one thing that I appreciate; that is, it helped build a sense of respect and mutual trust between the couple. With this conflict mostly resolved, it seems that Sakurasou as a series is starting to prepare to wrap up; this episode foreshadowed the highlights that are to come, with a brief little segment where Mashiro is obviously becoming very self-conscious of Sorata, as well as his improving relationship with Nanami. Based on how the series has been built up so far, it seems that the romantic spin to this love triangle of sorts lies in the relationship between Sorata and Nanami, with Mashiro instead occupying a role of an inspiration to Sorata. Of course, this is not absolutely set in stone, with plenty of episodes left to explore the remaining romances of this series.

Even after being treated to an episode of flashbacks and explanations about his feelings, my judgement on Jin remains more or less unchanged: he's a jerk. Take, for example, the fact that after ignoring Misaki throughout the exam period he expects her to pick up the phone happily after he's done. In the first place, Jin never took the common courtesy to explain to Misaki that he was busy and that he would see her after exams. He simply ran away, literally, like a coward and expected her to come back to him like nothing had happened. What was worse for me, in any case , was that he never apologized or made any impression that he was sorry or in the wrong for acting like this. He just asks Misaki to wait for him another four years and literally marks her as his own with the ring he gives her , and she has nothing to really say about it all. There's some subtle chauvinism at play here, and it really upsets me that no one other than Sorata had anything to say on the matter, and that Jin and Misaki themselves let it wrap up without having to make Jin accountable for his thoughtless selfishness.
