ZETMAN Episode 4: “Heh heh, You Activated My Trap Card”
Finally I see a plot emerging…I think…maybe? Episode fucking five, and just now a plot is starting. I have an affinity for fast paced shows, and in my opinion Zetman definitely does not fit into that category. It is episode five, and it seems as though just now the plot is slowly but surely starting to evolve. From what I can glean EVOL runs on a strict set of rules, the players assimilate into typical human life, and work to remain secret to the humans, and have a peaceful relationship with them.
This episode we also find out who the emo-haired, feminine featured dude is who has been skulking around in the past five episodes, he is a member of EVOL by the name of Haitani. We also meet a creepy ass old guy who is a member of EVOL who has taken an interest in Kouga, his reasons for this have not really come to light yet. You know how I was all exited about the Sweeper? Yeah well he may have been in this episode for a total of 20 seconds. The only thing about him that we really found out was that he works for EVOL.
Double bummer. I think that he just wants to feel powerful, and get attention, but in reality he cares very little for justice. I would like to speculate that this skewed sense of justice is going to get him in trouble in the future. We are subjugated to way too much Tanaka this episode.
In addition she seems to have a crush on Jin, and is showing distinct signs of being one of those over bearing types. All I can hope is that her character will undergo some major developments in the next few episodes. What a shocker, at the end of the episdoe a big fight scene erupts in which Jin is now being beaten to all hell. The pacing seems off, the dialog forced, and anticlimactic action scenes.

Zetman ep 7 – Ring of Exposure
By the way, I heard that the first episode adapted the entire first volume of the manga. Kouga will become justice? Why does that sound familiar? Alright, So Episode 2 jumps to a few years later where our characters have gotten older now. A pyrokinetic Player has been causing trouble around town. Two old geezers in a fistfight. I'm suddenly reminded of Metal Gear Solid 4. So Konoha and her mother helping give food to homeless old people when two of them start fighting. Jin comes in and breaks up the fight.

Plot: Jin Kanzaki is the product of an experiment where monsters called Players were created to fight each other for sport. One of the scientists working on the project, however, wanted to spare Jin from that fate and live as a human, but the Players soon revolted and escaped from their confines. As Jin grew, he was seen as somewhat of a local hero, saving people where he could while trying to weasel payments from those he saved. With him was a boy named Kouga who was obsessed with the idea of justice and heroes.

Zetman was a hard manga for me to read, well the first few volumes, not because it was nonsensical or boring because it is the exact opposite, but because the early parts of Zetman were dyed so thick in tragedy, my emotions and tears shuddered in anxiety at the thought of wondering which character I had come to love would be the next to lose their life. It was cruel, the struggles and torment the two main characters had to face and the total conflict with their expanding perspective of the world against the reality of their own ignorance and inabilities. Those early volumes exposing the characters to situations beyond their comprehension scarred them and mentally traumatized them. But certain developments in later volumes concerning those earlier incidents brought about different sort of tears.
