It's not bad, but it's not good, either. Characters look big and small at the same time and many of the colors are too pronounced. Movement overall is good, but during fight scenes, it feels rather stiff. Voice acting is good for the most part. I watched it in english dub and the actors weren't bad if you ask me.
Story-wise, it's good. You get a decent sense of how this world works and what the characters are all about. However, easily the best thing about this show is the music.
This is honestly some of the best music I've ever heard. Especially the song "Unravel" sung by TK. Overall, it's a good show that just barely passed in my opinion. Dan N. This discrepancy between anime and manga was most likely due to the studio being forced to water down the themes thanks to the broadcasting network in which the show was shown on.
If this is your only option to consume the Tokyo Ghoul series, go ahead and watch it. But if you have the opportunity to read the manga and novels, make that a priority over this anime series and avoid it at all costs once you had already read the original work as the adaption can appear to be nauseating from the changes they made from manga to anime. A live-action film based on the manga was released in Japan in July , with a sequel being released in July An anime adaptation based on the sequel manga, Tokyo Ghoul:re , aired for two seasons; the first from April to June , and the second from October to December In North America, Viz Media licensed the manga for English language release, while Funimation has licensed the anime series for streaming and home video distribution. Tokyo Ghoul is set in an alternate reality where ghouls , creatures that look like normal people but can only survive by eating human flesh, live among the human population in secrecy, hiding their true nature in order to evade pursuit from the authorities. Ghouls have powers including enhanced strength and regenerative abilities - a regular ghoul produces 4—7 times more kinetic energy in their muscles than a normal human; they also have several times the RC cells, a cell that flows like blood and can become solid instantly. Another distinctive trait of ghouls is that when they are excited or hungry, the color of their sclera in both eyes turns black and their irises red. A half-ghoul can either be born naturally as a ghoul and a human's offspring, or artificially created by transplanting some ghoul organs into a human. In both cases, a half-ghoul is usually much stronger than a pure-blood ghoul. In the case of a half-ghoul, only one of the eyes undergoes the "red eye" transformation.

The story deals with themes of identity, trauma, and thinly veiled race issues without being too edgy… for the most part. What made Tokyo Ghoul so interesting is the constant, grounded tension between humans and ghouls. To make up for their otherwise unassuming looks, the ghouls were given a horrifying dependence on human flesh. I have the same exact problem with most of the cast in the dark fantasy anime Akame ga Kill! When you want your anime to be taken seriously, as in, you have a complex and heavy story you wish to tell, select tropes must be used with care.

Watching Ken Kaneki transform from a gullible student into one of the most powerful ghouls of all time is one of the most fascinating journeys any main character has undergone in a shonen series. The anime adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul showed a ton of promise, with the first few episodes being pretty faithful to the manga. However, the anime took a turn after deviating from the source material. Keeping this in mind, here are some of the most impactful moments from the manga that anime viewers have no clue about.

Some fans of the Tokyo Ghoul manga series believe that Studio Pierrot purposefully went against the script provided by manga creator Sui Ishida and changed the story of the one-eyed, half-ghoul Ken Kaneki for the worse. But what really happened during production? Warning: This article contains some spoilers based on describing the differences between the anime and the manga. Both the chapters of the first Tokyo Ghoul manga and the ending of the Tokyo Ghoul Season 2 anime concluded with the Anteiku raid by the CCG, but how the anime arrived at that ending diverged greatly from the source material. Besides changing up the ending fight scene, which was the focus of many chapters in the manga, the ending of Tokyo Ghoul Root A also had Hideyoshi Nagachika Hide dying in the arms of Kaneki. Manga fans are hoping that Hide's death will be retconned for the Tokyo Ghoul:re anime adaptation , although Hide's face has already been shown on a missing person poster in the first episode. In the manga, Kaneki formed his own ghoul group to protect his friends after being tortured by Yamori of the Aogiri Tree.

However the greatest threat these creatures pose to humanity is their dangerous ability to blend flawlessly and masquerade as humans and reside in society alongside humans. Based on the best-selling supernatural horror manga by Sui Ishida, Tokyo Ghoul follows Ken Kaneki, a shy, bookish college student, who is instantly drawn to Rize Kamishiro, a beautiful violet-haired girl who is an avid reader like himself. However, Rize is not exactly who she seems to like and this is where the trouble begins and basically never ends.
