The animated film wasn't an instant success but it has created a cult following in the past couple of years thanks to hilarious memes created by fans. The movie is about a bee named Barry Seinfeld who's on a mission to stop the human race from stealing their honey.

Along the way, Barry creates an ally with a human named Vanessa and learns that pollination and honey is a dual effort from both species. And while it's been 12 years since the movie's release, we're taking a look at 10 things fans didn't know about Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie. Fans and non-fans wondered for years how a comedian like Jerry Seinfeld got involved with an animated environmental movie aimed at children. According to Collider , Seinfeld was having dinner with his neighbor, Steven Spielberg , when Jerry dropped the idea of creating a movie about a bee as a joke.

Steven Spielberg, however, did not think it was a joke and became immediately interested. By the time morning rolled around, Seinfeld was involved with an animated movie that started off as a joke. Contrary to the animated film, the picture doesn't show the bee's anatomy correctly — the same is said for their way of life. In real life, bees don't have two eyes , they have five!

They also walk with three legs instead of two and have three main sections of their body not one torso. Furthermore, Barry and the Pollen Jocks are seen pollinating the flowers before heading back to the hive but in the real bee world, males never leave the hive.

In fact, it's the female bees who pollinate because male bees don't have stingers and stay in the hive to procreate with the queen! In the courtroom, Barry is defending bees' rights. Humans have no need for honey besides the fact that it's delicious. Bees work hard for their honey and have the right to keep it for themselves. To get his point across to the courtroom, he invites a vicious brown bear to scare the jury. He associates the human race with hungry bears, which appears to work.

However, if you take a closer look at the brown bear, it's actually Vincent from Over the Hedge! Over the Hedge is another DreamWorks movie that came out a year earlier. It's the classic graduation march song that's played at basically every graduation throughout a person's life.

In Bee Movie , Barry and Adam are finally graduating school with the class of am as "Pomp and Circumstances" plays in the background. As Adam and Barry are flying to their seat with the song playing in the background, Barry says "Boy, quite a bit of pomp Will and Grace and Parks and Recreation sensation Megan Mullally does incredible work thanks to her high-pitched voice and villainous laugh.

At the beginning of the film, Barry is getting ready for his graduation day. The camera zooms in on his closet and there's a wall full of sneakers and sweaters. In real life, Jerry Seinfeld is a sneaker enthusiast and has been said to have pairs.

Seinfeld disputed the exact number but his love of sneakers is well documented. Even Barry wears sneakers throughout the film. Adam is Barry's best friend in the movie and is voiced by actor Matthew Broderick. Outside of filming, Seinfeld and Broderick have been friends for years. As diehard New Yorkers, the two have been seen around the city and at baseball games.

Jerry and Matthew have a perfect balance in their friendship and the same can be said for Barry and Adam. Like most animated pictures, DreamWorks thought of every detail when it came to creating Bee Movie. The bees' anatomies may have been altered to be more visually appealing but other aspects were created thoughtfully. Seinfeld mentioned Alex McDowell was in charge of creating the look and feel of the film and hired incredible professionals to make Bee Movie come to life.

Grant Larson, in particular, is an exterior director for Porsche. He was hired to design the look of Mr. Montgomery's car, which was beautifully crafted in every scene. When Vanessa and Barry become friends, she tells him about the Pasadena flower parade.

It was a big deal as a florist and a lover of flowers. After the bees won the court case, however, bees took a much-needed break from pollinating but nature suffered without their help. Just check out the trailers, the promotional spots on NBC, the copious amounts of interviews and splashy newspaper and magazine features. You probably won't find much, ahem, buzz over the computer animation, or the film's plot, or even the family-friendly PG rating. What you will find is that, even after nearly a decade of keeping a low profile upon ending his blockbuster sitcom, Jerry Seinfeld still has it in spades. And the Bee Movie marketing campaign won' let you forget it; the whole thing is positively Seinfeld-centric. And, in many ways, so is the film.
