Set in the far future, REDLINE is about the galaxy's biggest and deadliest illegal road race, only held every five years at a secret location not unveiled until practically the last minute. Naturally, everyone wants to take part, but to do so they have to qualify in one of the Yellowline races first. One such racer, Sweet JP, almost achieves it. Waking up in hospital with an arm and a leg in casts and his dreams in tatters, JP is shocked to find he has in fact made the grade. It turns out the venue has been announced: the fascistic, authoritarian military superpower state of Roboworld, who aren't exactly pleased about their world being used as an impromptu racetrack and make it perfectly clear that they intend to stop the racers with extreme prejudice before the starting flag has even been dropped. As a result, two racers have already dropped out, and JP is voted in through a popularity contest.

6 Anime Movies Like Redline [Recommendations]
The late s are an interesting time for animation, especially Japanese animation. There's a large transition toward more and more content created digitally and less and less hand-drawn stuff.
This is a time when there's an enormous glut of content, and when we're teetering on the edge of services like Crunchyroll that finally make it easy to get Japanese shows over to western audiences easily and quickly. And in the middle of all of that drops a delayed release of a Madhouse Productions film created by the legendary Takeshi Koike called Redline. Redline is a racing anime, but nothing like Speed Racer. At first it seems like a classic underdog story about the poor kid rising through the ranks to become a national hero, but it's so much more than that.
It's actually, weirdly, a story about rejecting fascism. It's also kind of an indictment of the military industrial complex? Magical girls are also there. Redline is very weird! But it's also absolutely stunning.
Every single moment is packed with incredibly detailed, gorgeous art. And, if you're following along, get excited, because we're sticking with anime but also going a lot more mainstream. Redline was an anime movie directed by Takeshi Koike firstly aired in and was produced by the animation giants Madhouse. The plot revolves around a no-holds-barred race set in the distant future called Redline and one of its participants, a daredevil racing driver that goes by the name of JP. Being an action movie revolving around race cars, the premise of the plot is incredibly straightforward and does not come with clever twists, it simply just gets the job done, which is not a bad thing at all in this case. The plot was never really the main focal point in this movie anyways.
