13 Beloved TV Holiday Specials You Can Stream Right Now

Another holiday tradition resumes this week as television gears up for its annual marathon celebration of the Christmas season. During the next three weeks, dozens of TV programs will spread holiday cheer, but there are several longtime favorites that everyone both young and old eagerly anticipate.

And it appears most of them are returning again this year. First, the airdates for the two most asked about specials: "A Charlie Brown Christmas" airs at 8 p. Elsewhere, that jolly, happy soul "Frosty the Snowman" makes his annual visit at 8 p. Saturday and again at 8 p. Few films capture the spirit of "peace on earth, good will to men" like this Frank Capra classic starring James Stewart.

Once again, the offbeat comedy "A Christmas Story" will be the most frequently shown movie of the holiday season. A hour marathon airing begins at 8 p. Christmas Eve on TNT. Based on the writings of Jean Shepherd, the warm and witty movie perfectly captures the awe and excitement of the holiday season as seen through the eyes of a kid.

The number of Christmas specials and movies has blossomed so much in recent years, it almost is impossible to list every one. Many of your favorite network series will have special holiday episodes, and numerous cable channels will have dozens of holiday shows throughout the month. The following is a list of many, but not all, of the Christmas programs planned for telecast between now and the day after St.

I had thought Santa Claus would have dated in the 60s, but it squeaks into the next decade. The Fred Astaire intro at the beginning is easily the best part of the whole film. The rest ends up being a strange origin story for Santa that ends up draining all of the good-hearted charity out of the character, leaving little but a desire to spread toys. There are two villains, one of whom is redeemed and grants Santa his magical powers. The other is just a big old bad dictator who has to die to be vanquished.
