Best marvel movies and shows

It takes a lot of effort to get audiences the world over to believe that the fate of the universe should be entrusted to a talking tree and a sarcastic raccoon. Begin with a story of the repentant millionaire playboy who builds an iron suit with a nuclear heart from a box of scraps in a cave. Toss in a super soldier thawed from ice after 70 years. How about a magic hammer man from space, or the turncoat Russian spy who loses her accent real quick? The MCU has allowed generations of comic book fans to ascend to the highest throne in pop culture, while allowing millions more who have never visually connected comic page panels together to become versed in Wakandan politics as well as where to find the bathroom at the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Thor: Love and Thunder has arrived to continue an epic Phase 4 in the MCU, where keeping track of things is a bit trickier due to the multiverse.

Luckily, the new Thor movie doesn't deal in any alternate worlds like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness did. Instead, it picks up an unspecified amount of time after Avengers: Endgame with Thor having been on several adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Our biggest clue to exactly when the movie takes place comes in a conversation between Thor and Jane when he tells her it's been eight years since they last saw each other.

We know they broke up before Thor: Ragnarok in That means Thor: Love and Thunder is either in late if they broke up in or early-to-mid if they broke up just before the events of Ragnarok. The recent TV shows, such as Ms Marvel , take place around early , so we'll pop the movie at the end for now.

Perhaps the most exciting reveal in the movie, though, is that we can now officially call the Team Thor shorts canon as Daley Pearson reprises his role as Darryl, so we've slotted them into the official timeline now.

Even with the multiverse shenanigans, Phase 4 has been fairly straightforward timeline-wise if you wanted to make sure you were watching in chronological order. Well, except for Loki , but we'll get to that. With so much going on in Phase 4, it can get a bit confusing, so that's why we're here to help with a definitive guide to watching the MCU in chronological order, if that's what you wish to do.

We suggest watching Loki after Avengers: Endgame as that's when 's Loki breaks off into his own timeline and What If? But what about everything else in the MCU? One note on our timeline: if something takes place in multiple time periods such as Eternals , we've put it where the bulk of the movie or TV show takes place. You might want to take some slight exceptions, such as not watching the Ant-Man and The Wasp credits scene until after Avengers: Infinity War , but it depends on how dedicated you are to the order.

So for the sake of ease, just watch it all after season six, and it'll make as much sense. You could also watch the MCU in its release-date order, and if that's the approach you fancy, head this way for our guide.

The best Marvel movies in 2022: from Iron Man to Doctor Strange 2

Mild snark aside, it has been an incredible run for this particular Disney-owned billion-dollar movie machine. As I sat awaiting the first scenes from Black Panther , I was struck by how amazing it is that the opening animation to all MCU films, which was once a flipping of pages showing scenes from Marvel comics—usually aligned to match whichever character the film was featuring—was now made up of pictures of the actual movie characters themselves. Instead, it just kinda … occupies time? Instead, it feels like a well-shot but rather densely packed educational film on some other comic universe, one filled with off-brand heroes and the usual array of power sets. Eternals is unlikely to leave audiences wanting more or remembering much , though it may well whet the appetite for the day when the Fantastic Four and X-Men finally arrive. Besides being encouraging evidence that Marvel knew how to better handle its recently reclaimed property, such moves make some of the less sensible moments—and there are plenty—easier to overlook. No one will ever claim The Incredible Hulk is one of the best MCU efforts, but it deserves credit for being one of the first.

Your mileage may vary on how successful she was — but "Eternals" did introduce Harry Styles to the MCU, so there's that. It wasn't as well-received as its predecessor, but it has its defenders. Edward Norton took over for Eric Bana in "The Incredible Hulk," which was plagued with rumors of behind-the-scenes drama , including that Norton rewrote much of the movie while it was shooting, and that there were many clashes between Norton, director Louis Leterrier, and Marvel Studios. The follow-up to smash hit "Thor: Ragnarok" and the first-ever fourth solo film for an MCU hero didn't live up to expectations, at least according to critics. But we did get to see Natalie Portman return to the MCU as her version of the Mighty Thor, a couple of screaming goats, and a jaw-dropping post-credits cameo. In retrospect, "Iron Man 2" had an impossible job: to build upon what is still regarded one of the finest superhero films of all time.

Multiverse of Madness came out on top in our poll, which may seem a bit strange. After all, the movie is still shrouded in secrecy, but.
