5 Centimeters per Second: Distance of the Heart Part 2
It can often be hard to decide which of the work of a film-maker is considered their best. With the recent release of Weathering With You as another reminder of the genius of Makoto Shinkai, it presents an opportunity to look back on his previous work to see whether one of his first full-length films, 5 cm Per Second , is still considered to be his greatest work to date. Here are 5 reasons why 5 cm Per Second is his best work to date, and 5 why it no longer holds the top spot. One thing Shinkai loves to put into his romance stories is some element of fantasy or science fiction, usually used as the backdrop to push his characters towards one another. While this makes the story far more interesting, it also makes it harder to relate to the characters and the events in their lives that lead them to one another.
I only know when I grow up! Even if there is no train at “5 cm per second”, the ending is the same.
While these days his older works have fallen by the wayside in terms of popularity, one film that stands the test of time is the film 5 cm per Second. Despite how long the film has been out, there are still elements that are unknown to those who have watched it and new versions of the story are still being released even thirteen years later. Upon completion of the film in January , the first episode, Cherry Blossom, was released to the public on Yahoo! The full-length film was released two weeks later on March 3rd, premiering at Cinema Rise in Shibuya, Tokyo. Makoto Shinkai is, right now, mostly associated with his fantasy romance films, Your Name and Weathering With You, both heavily featuring fantasy elements as a central focus that drives the plot forward. While his works are split between realism and fantasy fairly evenly, a large portion of his more realistic works are short films rather than full-length features. The English dub release in the US only lasted a few months under its original license with ADV Films, before they abruptly announced they were discontinuing distribution of the title. A few months after this, the rights were acquired by another company and they quickly began preparations to redistribute the film once again, but not until they had made a major change to the voice work. 5 Centimeters Per Second (2007 Movie) Ending Explained
How many of them have I been missing? The existing misconception is that since meeting Akari, Takaki had never been able to truly let go of her when they separated, and this in turn negatively impacted his ability to connect with those around him in the present, whether it be the athletic and cheerful Kanae Sumida, or Risa Mizuno, a lady he meets through work. As he turns around to look back, a train passes through; once the train passes, Akari has gone, but Takaki merely smiles and continues with his walk. This dramatic contrast appears to contradict the gloom and misery that Takaki had experienced earlier, leaving viewers to wonder why a glimpse of Akari would be enough to undo the loneliness Takaki was suffering.
