Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot review

There are multilayered elements of RPG systems, all of which are focused on developing the strength of Goku and friends. Past that you can collect food and create meals, which will give you temporary boosts on top of permanent stat increases for the character that eats it. These emblems represent characters and you can slot them into a variety of boards, each of which enhance or boost some aspect for you. For example, the training board boosts the amount of XP you get, while the cooking board boosts the bonuses you get from eating food.

While the draw here is seeing the epic fights and moments in the gorgeous new engine, there are some new elements in the mix. This comes in the form of sub-stories. You can explore the world, of course, but sub-stories are optional missions that often involve classic characters, and new bits of story. These characters each level and grow independently, and have their own set of skills. That then factors into building a party later on, with characters that can assist Goku in battle.

Different zones will open up as you make your way through each saga, and you can travel between these by opening the world map. Each of these zones is a wide-open area that you can roam around in finding villages, sub-stories, food, materials, enemies, and more.

I would know, just ask the dozens of DBZ statues adorning my shelves. I was always ready for new episodes when they aired Friday nights and I always picked up the latest game. I have played most Dragon Ball games — and yes, so many of them are bad. FighterZ is an amazing homage to the franchise as a whole, with incredible attention to detail in mechanics and style. The Xenoverse titles gave players more of an RPG experience with new story and alternate universe retellings.

Additionally, a demo for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game will appear sometime in the future. The demo will allow for players to experience a small section of the story, and explore the field. Players will also have the opportunity to take on sub-quests. The small story segment players will be able to experience will have missions from the Dragon Ball Z Saiyan Saga. However, details regarding the length of the demo have not been disclosed. Additionally, there is currently no information suggesting that progress from the demo will carry over into the main game if the player chooses to purchase it. The demo is also currently only available through the Japanese Nintendo eShop. Though, this may change at a later date. Players will have the opportunity to play through integral moments in the story, and explore various planets. Several DLC chapters are also available, which includes extra scenarios and playable characters.

I love Dragon Ball Z games, they give you a way to experience epic moments from the Anime! I also love all the side stories that can be told through the use of gaming like the Dragon Ball Xenoverse games that give you a time travelers perspective on events. Legacy of Goku would receive 2 sequels that were even better in terms of gameplay but something about the early Saiyan arcs just get me all warm and fuzzy! Could this finally be the game to surpass the Legacy of Goku for me?
