Dogtanian tv movie
Most of the characters in the series are anthropomorphizations of dogs, hence the title of the cartoon; although there are a few exceptions, most notably Dogtanian's two sidekicks Pip the mouse and Planchet the bear, among several others. They are referred to as musketeers throughout the cartoon and only the title calls them 'Muskehounds'. A key difference between the Dogtanian adaptions and Dumas' novel is that the character traits of Athos and Porthos were interchanged, making Athos the extrovert and Porthos the secretive noble of the group. Nowadays the series is still being broadcast on different platforms such as YouTube and Netflix. In November , a version that contains both series and both television films was released exclusively for HMV.

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds review – swashbuckling for the very young
The cartoon was created by Spanish animation studio BRB Internacional and co-produced in Japan by Nippon Animation , one of many successful collaborations between the two. This was a remarkably faithful part adaptation with some inevitable bowdlerisation ; for instance, Dogtanian's love interest Juliette, is M. Bonacieux's niece rather than his wife , with one major difference: the principal characters are all anthropomorphic dogs, as is most of the supporting cast, with the occasional cat, pig, bear or rabbit. Young Dogtanian is a child of poor but honest parents, living in a small village in Gascony, scrapping with his puppy pals and dreaming of becoming a Musketeer the title notwithstanding, they're called "Musketeers" throughout - at least in the English dub.

The announcement of a movie adaptation of Dogtanian and The Three Muskehounds was met with nostalgic approval from movie fans of a certain age. Despite his tendency for clumsiness, his skills with the sword earn the trust of the Muskehounds, whom he teams up with to stop the evil Cardinal Richelieu Stephen Hughes from seizing control of the city. The computer animation is bold, mimicking the style of a Hannah-Barbera cartoon. A very basic re-tread of the novel, the hero comes off as an annoying, oblivious buffoon whose mishaps are observed by his squire Pip Robbie K.

According to their main website, BRB Internacional was planning a new feature-length CGI film to be released in , but it was delayed for unknown reasons. The film will maintain the original series opening main theme tune composed by Guido and Maurizio De Angelis.
Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds. Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds is an unexpected cinematic revival of the Spanish-Japanese cartoon. This film attempts to condense the episode run of the original show into a minute feature, and while technically it manages to accomplish this, a great deal is compromised in the process. The story clearly struggles with juggling all the narrative balls of the series but addresses this problem by telling rather than showing; the script is very dialogue-heavy and filled with exposition, making the picture move slower than it perhaps should, in a way that could frustrate children and parents alike. However, the dialogue is a bit too verbose and formal in a way that could alienate much of its junior audience. The exposition is so dense and uninteresting that even the most patient of children could be left out in the cold. This is somewhat balanced out by the action scenes, which have a fun comedic beat, but these moments are too few and far between.
