Suisei no Gargantia: Going Everywhere, Ending Nowhere

Plot Summary: The story begins in the distant future in the far reaches of the galaxy. The Human Galactic Alliance has been constantly fighting for its survival against a grotesque race of beings called Hideous. During an intense battle, the young lieutenant Red and his humanoid mobile weapon Chamber are swallowed up into a distortion of time and space. Waking from his artificially induced hybernation, Red realises that he has arrived on Earth, the planet on the lost frontier.

On this planet that was completely flooded by the seas, people live in fleets of giant ships, salvaging relics from the seas' depths in order to survive. Red arrives on one of the fleets called Gargantia. With no knowledge of the planet's history or culture, he is forced to live alongside Amy, a year-old girl who serves as a messenger aboard the Gargantia fleet.

To Red, who has lived a life where he knows nothing but fighting, these days of peace continue to surprise him. Watch now. Show Comments. Recent Artiles. Related Anime. Suisei no Gargantia Dub. Suisei no Gargantia Specials Dub. Suisei no Gargantia: Meguru Kouro, Haruka.

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great year. I wanted to share my anime evaluation of This year I dropped a lot more shows than I used to, but I still completed only 10 less shows than

Medieval Otaku is run by a bookworm inflamed with a desire for learning and for God. The study of foreign cultures, literature, and history eventually led to him discovering anime, which hooked him with the remarkable richness and beauty of its stories and is likely to remain a strong hobby of his for decades to come.

We start with Ledo as always introspectively drilling a hole in the hideauze tooth, and he wants to do something useful for society. Chambers tells him that he has basically no skills that are suited for civilian work, so he should just spend more time introspectively drilling holes and feel sad for himself. Amy comes along, and being the positive person she is, tries to find him work; eventually they come to the same conclusion that Chambers did. This was a pretty terrible episode, and right now, seems to be entirely skip-able. I repeat: Why is this necessary?

Great series! Good characters, story, and art. I see that there are additional episodes to this series? I hope the four OVA episodes will be added sometime.

[Anime Review] Suisei no Gargantia

The main focus of anime nowadays goes either on action or on slice-of-life genres where science fiction is more of a backdrop theme. It starts off really well with a very relaxed and carefree pace but as soon as the first half of the season gets over, everything is turned upside down and it slowly drifts into a joyless disaster. Ledo, the main character of the series, receives a great amount of character development but often seems like a stereotypical character of the genre. But for others, like me, it can get really annoying, especially with the slow pace of the show.

G and directed by Kazuya Murata , and aired between April and June After a failed attempt by the Galactic Alliance to destroy an enemy super-weapon, Ledo is knocked into a wormhole and loses consciousness. When he awakens, he discovers that he and Chamber have been "salvaged" by a rag-tag band of "primitive" human scavengers aboard the Gargantia , a massive fleet of ships on an ocean-covered planet. Chamber tells him that local star charts reveal the planet is Earth, the birthplace of humanity, a place that members of the Galactic Alliance were only familiar with from stories and believed was a myth. Ledo must adjust to the language, culture and lifestyle of the planet, while finding his new purpose in life aboard the Gargantia.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet Suisei no Gargantia For me, I could have watched ten extra episodes more in line with the first half of Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet , which had a fun slice-of-life feel at times, as the characters go about their business upon a verdant and vibrant, connected fleet of ships.

Suisei no Gargantia Review

The very first minute provides us with a bothersome infodump, one of the laziest things to do in a visual medium; there are so many more effective options than needless backgrounds featuring translucent images and lucid stars. Exacerbated to this are vivid action scenes that provide glimmering eyeporn but sadly overstay their welcome. To have this go on for half the episode length simply flabbergasts me. The luxurious color palette, excellent detail in the mechas and stars, intriguing sci-fi technology, and the attuned choral music keep it entertaining, but with little knowledge of the occurring events, such details only coat the show with a superficial shell. I can accept this as a nice teaser but really, to take so much time merely to show off pretty colors, makes this half of the episode fall flat on any element of the narrative. Fortunately, the second half takes a turn for the better. Moreover, the fine details into the background and nameless characters wholly complement this direction.

Ledo begins to question what use he can be in a civilization completely parallel to his own. While he lets the dock workers make use of Chamber, Amy takes Ledo to meet Dr. Oldham and Bebel to obtain information.
