Rebecca Sugar's Steven Universe works as well for adults as it does for children, simply because the characters don't spend their time spouting vague morals and getting into amazing battles but actually try to bond with each other. Every episode, every song, has a meaning deeper than what it appears on the surface; each of them expands on the world of possibility when one loves and accepts others for what they are and what they can become. There are countless heartbreaking moments in the narrative, many of them involving hatred, fear, or jealousy, especially where these emotions have no place being. The arduous task is categorizing the various events that touched audiences over the course of the series, but there certainly are a few that stand out more than the rest. When Steven and the Crystal Gems appear before White Diamond, she successfully converts everyone in the room into her grayscale zombies, except for the protagonist and Connie. However, she fails to "extract" Pink Diamond from his belly and begins screaming about him being an immature child.

Please grab one while you can and have your own experience! The author—the person in charge of adapting all of this information into this slick, readable package—is Chris McDonnell, whose work was previously applied on the Art and Origins book. The foreword is by N. The interior covers are decorated with tons of amazing sketches of Steven and Connie on the front, and a bunch of Gem sketches on the back. Its organization is different from the previous book in that it shares applicable work in chunks associated with groups of episodes rather than pertaining to different aspects of building the show. Jemisin gives us such a great introduction to the book—apparently understanding very well that the audience of this book is full of animation enthusiasts and adult fans more than it is full of kids, and explaining that bewildering journey some adults had from blowing this show off as a silly kid thing to falling in love with it hard and fast.
At least until the movie comes out. And the sixth season. There are far too many implications for the series. Most of the major plot threads are solved, White Diamond is defeated, Lapis and Peridot officially join the Gems, the corrupted Gems are healed…just to name a few. Like where can they possibly go from here?
In my experience, most movies based on television shows tend to do things this way. It reminds us of what we love about Steven Universe , crafting nostalgia around a threat a world state so painstakingly earned over 5 seasons. Over the course of a brisk hour-and-a-half, we revisit how we got here, who these characters were, and what they are now.
