Though they try hard, they are usually outclassed by super-criminals or criminal organizations in anime, requiring the help of special units or some lone hero.

As the name implies, seinen works are marketed primarily to an audience of young men; the age range commonly understood to be the target of such works goes roughly from 17 to somewhere in the 40s. For humans, this generally covers anyone age 65 and older. The phrase implies a set of existential questions: Do artificial beings e. Replicants, Bioroids, or other AI constructs dream, feel, or have a soul? It's hard to watch the Stand Alone Complex without mentally measuring it against Mamoru Oshii's epoch-making original and its frustrating sequel —even more so now that the franchise's TV branch has its own feature-length film. However, the mind's habit of making mountains out of molehills of minutiae aside, they are probably best treated as simply two different takes on the same material. Where Oshii's films were philosophical ruminations wrapped in action-movie skins, SAC director Kenji Kamiyama's film is a police procedural with overtones of Byzantine politics and a whiff of cyberpunk mindgames. It does move a little too quickly at times. The dialogue piles up as characters endlessly explain the details of their investigations, the cast crowds each other for screen-time, and past conflicts and events are horned into an already overcrowded storyline.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society (movie)

What may warrant repeating is that the timeline for Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence , the two theatrical films directed by Mamoru Oshii, is completely separate from that of the Ghost in the Shell TV series, Stand Alone Complex and its second season which is known as Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig. Both of those are directed by Kenji Kamiyama. On top of that, the events of the Ghost in the Shell manga by Masamune Shirow are contained within their own continuity as well. Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society , available on DVD from Bandai Entertainment and Manga Video, is a feature-length television special that directly follows the events of 2nd Gig, making it the latest—but certainly not final—chapter of the tale. Solid State Society takes place two years after the conclusion of the Ghost in the Shell : 2nd Gig series. Things appear to be a bit shaken up, as lead character Major Motoko Kusanagi is no longer a member of the newly expanded Section 9. Replacing her is Togusa, and becoming squad leader meant that Togusa had to make the ultimate sacrifice. By that I mean he no longer sports his trademark mullet, turtleneck sweater, and Mateba revolver. I always imagined that Togusa, in lieu of possessing cybernetics, relied on his mullet as the source of his power such that cutting it would bring about his downfall, much like Samson in the Old Testament.

Lyrics By Google Search. Clouds of another life Wash across the sunlight Changing shape as they go by Thought I saw your face there But like them You just disappear Disappear into empty sky Quietly And so removed from reason Hey Have you ever had to reason? Hey The eagle comes and goes To somewhere much higher When the silence grows Can you hear it, sniper? Visions and memories Where someone once laid flowers For the past and things to come Thought you were gone But I can feel you So I Turn around Turn around yes, and there you are Here again Can you give it some meaning? Hey Ask again, but you say nothing Hey Motion with no sound Ice inside the fire The stillness in the storm Silence hides the sniper Eagles come and go To someplace much higher And when the silence grows Can you hear it, sniper?

Ghost in the Shell fans, rejoice for there is yet another worthwhile addition to the canon about to arrive on these shores. Following two hugely successful seasons of GitS television series Stand Alone Complex , a show noted for the ease with which it weaves complex plot lines through multiple seasons, the creative team behind the show decided to take a run at a single, theatrical length feature set in the SAC world. This has a pair of direct consequences to it. First, the television series and theatrical features have never followed the same timeline so those who only know the Mamoru Oshii directed films may find certain plot points confusing as they contradict events from the first film. Second, while it is not absolutely necessary to know the television shows intimately this film does pick up the story two years following the conclusion of the second series and makes full use of a broad range of characters so a basic understanding of the characters and scenarios will certainly help get you up to speed.

Searching for products Actually it's the first in a pair of very timely Blu-ray upgrades from Manga Entertainment. Both movies take a look at a future Japan suffering from the sociological effects of a geriatric time bomb. Solid State Society's take on it is classic cyberpunk as you would expect from the Ghost in the Shell franchise, but Roujin Z's take on it infuses a whole lot of satire into its cyberpunk musings. I say all this is timely, as quite recently, Japan's demographic downward spiral has once again been in the news.

When creating the music of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex , Yoko Kanno wanted to create music that would contrast from the formal and "manly" world that appeared in the original manga. In order to do so, Kanno implemented themes of being human and "tangible fuzziness" into the music. Sound Director, Kazuhiro Wakabayashi, provided menus for Kanno to follow in which she described as "delicate emotional feelings [ sic ] that were like poems. When creating the theme song "Inner Universe", Kanno used the image of digital bits and composed the score consisting of recurrent quick beats.
