So when Blood Lad was announced, with the intention that it be the exemplar of the straight-up shonen action series, I was willing to give All the Anime the benefit of the doubt, despite it going up against shows like Naruto, Bleach, the granddaddy of them all, Dragon Ball Z, and the biggest shonen show in the world, One Piece. The Japanese have a knack of making long running action shows that appeal to the young male demographic, stretching for hundreds and hundreds of episodes. Blood Lad was one of the several anime this summer that didn't make my list of the five anime you should be watching. That doesn't mean it is bad, however. Rather, Blood Lad is a fun, light-hearted comedy adventure that could teach your average fighting anime a thing or two.
For those who enjoy a decided element of horror to their Anime, Blood Lad was a welcomed release. It presented a number of compelling elements that connected with a fanbase right from the start. This was first from the manga series, which quickly became popular. The first season of the Anime series proved to be even more successful. It combined a singular story and universe with a range of engaging characters. It has been celebrated by critics and Anime fans alike for bringing something unique to horror Anime, which has seen a rather significant resurgence as a genre in recent years.
According to rumors, he is a bloodthirsty and merciless monster, but in reality, Staz is just an otaku obsessed with Japanese culture and completely uninterested in human blood. Leaving the management of his territory to his underlings, Staz spends his days lazing around, indulging in anime, manga, and games. When Fuyumi Yanagi, a Japanese girl, accidentally wanders through a portal leading into the demon world, Staz is overjoyed. But just as he is starting to feel an unusual attraction to her, his territory is attacked, resulting in Fuyumi's untimely death. She turns into a wandering ghost and the crestfallen Staz vows to resurrect her as this would mean being able to travel to the human world, something he has always dreamed of. Blood Lad follows Staz and Fuyumi, soon joined by the spatial magician Bell and the half-werewolf Wolf, as they travel to find a magic that can bring humans back to life.
