Fox has announced that The Simpsons will be appearing in a crossover episode of Family Guy. The episode, titled "The Simpsons Guy," will follow the Griffin family on a road trip that ultimately finds them in Springfield, where they come face to face with Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

The landmark television event will air in fall , and Entertainment Weekly says the episode at one point pits Homer against Peter as they passionately argue whether Duff or Pawtucket is the superior local brew. The pairing of Fox's two most successful animation shows is a move that will likely be welcomed by fans, but also bemoaned by viewers who feel both have run well beyond their prime.

Next year's crossover episode won't be the first collaboration between these two hit Sunday shows; prior one-off cameos have seen Dan Castellaneta Homer appear on Family Guy and Seth MacFarlane on The Simpsons. "Family Guy" And "The Simpsons" Crossover Episode Will Be Aired This September

Two animated comedies that are always pitted against one another are Family Guy and The Simpsons. The latter turned FOX into must-see television on Sunday nights, leading the way for the creation of the network's "Animation Domination" animated block of programming. So naturally, both shows like to take not-so-subtle jabs at each other, though one such occurrence has been censored by the FX Network for a controversial scene. Lois is chastising Brian for using a woman only for sex, and believing he is above that type of behavior. As this speech is taking place, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen promoting " The Simpsons Sundays on FOX" with a miniature Marge Simpson waving to the audience.

"The Simpsons Guy" is the first official crossover episode between The Simpsons and Family Guy. However, Dan Castellaneta previously voiced.

When The Simpsons graduated from The Tracey Ullman Show to get its own primetime half-hour series, television was changed forever. No longer were cartoons just for children on Saturday mornings. All the comedy after The Simpsons was influenced by its unique, game-changing sensibility. While both series borrowed the concept of the animated adventures of a blue-collar American family from The Simpsons , Family Guy borrowed a few more elements. Lois is a housewife like Marge, the Griffins have three kids a boy, a girl, and a baby like the Simpsons, and Quahog is a fictional town full of colorful supporting characters like Springfield. Even the things that make Family Guy unique — like the cutaway gags — are prevalent in the early seasons of The Simpsons before the writers phased them out. Above all, what sets King of the Hill apart from The Simpsons — and what makes Family Guy so similar to it — is the comedic tone. In both The Simpsons and Family Guy , characters will be horrifically injured in one scene and be fine in the next; non-sequitur pop culture references can come out of nowhere and take over a situation; and celebrities show up all the time and no one bats an eye. By contrast, King of the Hill is much more realistic.

If you're "The Simpsons," you roll out a jaw-dropping couch gag AND kill off a Springfield resident while you're at it. Simpsons fans were warned of a character's impending demise and online speculation had focused on Krusty the Clown. That turned out to be a bit of misdirection, however, as the doomed Springfielder in question was none other than Rabbi Hyman Krustofsky, man of God, and father to Krusty, Bart's favorite entertainer.

Well then, we better savour the collision of the Simpson and Griffin families while it lasts. Back in the days of The Cleveland Show , Peter Griffin made a guest appearance in season three, where he saved Cleveland and his friends from being sexually assaulted by hillbillies. On our show we would have shown the rape, and had a show tune about the rape. Just like how when Jay Sherman did a guest appearance on The Simpsons years back, it was very much a Simpsons cartoon and not something out of The Critic. For years, the two cartoons have thrown barbs at each other in their own ways. The Simpsons made various references to how Family Guy is a ripoff of their show.
