He allows his camera to slip and slide around the set pieces, including a rooftop escape route that would do King Kong proud, and knows how to stage the singing acts, dramatic lighting and all.

There's a sense of danger in this film — from cruel puppet masters, boys who turn into donkeys, and a monstrous whale — that makes it a thrill from beginning to end.
It's amazing to think that, with all of the advances in moviemaking technology, the first-ever full-length animated film holds up as well as it does. But Snow White still feels magical today, like you're paging through a storybook of old fairy tales.

While beautifully animated is too concerned with being a crowd pleaser to be about much of anything. These numbers don't serve much purpose. Neither does the movie. The story exists solely to string together a series of song-and-dance performances. Sing is one of the biggest surprises of , not because it is especially great, but because it is much better than a movie about singing, talking animals ever needs to be. Sing is a good-natured, well-intentioned bit of jukebox fluff that is at its most frustrating when you can see how it could have possibly gone in a more interesting direction. W riter-director Garth Jennings has returned with a sequel to the highly successful family animation Sing , about a koala called Buster Moon voiced by Matthew McConaughey , a musical theatre impresario with a never-say-die attitude and a cute troupe of talking, singing animals. That was a slick product with a fair bit of charm, but this follow-up has all of the varnish but the actual heart and soul has dwindled to a blandness. It feels like a screensaver, a movie generated by an algorithm, the same algorithm that calculated the likely profit on extending the Sing franchise. They somehow blag their way into an audition for thuggish media magnate and arctic wolf Jimmy Crystal Bobby Cannavale who lets them put on their sci-fi spectacular in his hotel showroom, as long as it stars his pampered princess of a daughter Porsha voiced by Halsey.

All of which sounds cute and family-friendly enough. But it seems viewers have been left hopping mad by one character — a hip-hop loving gorilla called Johnny whose dad is in prison for running a gang.
