Code 1: Dante explores the storyline from Dante's point of view, it introduces the main characters. It explains how Vergil and Arkham meet and how they formed an alliance. Dante is first introduced as a mercenary willing to take any job that offers a good reward, eventually revealing that the reason behind this is a desire to avenge the death of his mother by slaying those that killed her. Code 2: Vergil introduces the Temen-ni-gru a structure that holds the door to the demonic realm and it follows Vergil and Arkham on their quest to unseal the door to it. It illustrates the moment when Dante's demonic powers began awakening.

The manga consists of three volumes, named Code 1, Code 2, and Code 3, but the last one was never published. It was first released in Japan, and the English version was then released in The events of the manga take place some time before the game's, likely about a year, as referenced by Dante in Mission 2: The blood link. The art style is detailed and the human proportions are made realistic, so that is stays as close to the games as possible, though character eyes are enlarged to convey emotion in accordance with anime style. Additionally, the manga plays with light and dark to cue the reader to the tone of the scene: Pages with scenes about Vergil or Arkham are generally black, while those dealing with Dante, Lady, or the others from the human realm are usually white. These subtle visual cues help the reader transition between story foci, which shift often to describe simultaneous action. Introduces Dante as a mercenary in his unnamed shop. It also describes how Vergil and Arkham formed an alliance to awaken the Temen-ni-gru. In this volume, Dante accepts a job from Enzo , his liaison, to locate and return a girl named Alice. She has run away of her own free will, lured by a demon that has possessed her doll and promised her all the fleeting things humans desire in exchange for her purity.

Following a recent post in which I shared one of my Vergil headcanons , I was asked to write more about my personal musings and thoughts. Please keep in mind that the following post is highly speculative and based on my subjective interpretations of the canon material - I have absolutely no tangible proof to base this headcanon on, only implications, observations and a bad habit of overanalyzing canon events. In the aftermath of the attack that destroyed their lives, Vergil and Dante did not reunite, instead the twins thought each other dead and went their respective ways, convinced they were the lone survivor. The likeliest of answers is probably that Dante did, once he had enough money. We know for a fact that his childhood home in Red Grave was the last place Vergil ever felt safe in, and we also know that for the longest time Vergil did not admit to himself that it was not regret over his inability to save Eva that tormented him first and foremost, but the feeling of abandonment, helplessness and weakness that overtook him as he was attacked and no one came to his rescue. He wanted to save Eva, but he would have needed Eva to save him.

Honestly at first I considered those two characters to have demons that were working with Arkham, given that it could have been possible that he could have made some deals. One thing that I read on the wiki is that Arkham was the rabbit Rabbi and perhaps some of you guessed it from the start. First, here are some panels that show the rabbit doll. Moving on, later we see Rabbi who is bigger and talks, he was the one who gave Dante the request to find Alice. The signs that it was Arkham would have been the book Rabbi was carrying which I think it was the same Arkham had Records of Devil Swords and also the way he was talking about Vergil and Dante, Arkham knowing things about Sparda and the twins.
