Is the Series Finale of 'Attack on Titan' Really Ending Without a Movie? What We Know

I was excited, although apprehensive about the changes to the series that I knew were coming. That said the theater was super nice, I was with my friends, and the overall experience was a great one. Characters are missing, have been changed, and are all around different. I may be forgetting a couple but the rest of the cast has been morphed into other random characters who no longer have the same name as their originals. So, even with these changes how was the movie?

Honestly, impressive. It starts off with the day the Colossal Titan attacks. Eren, basically the town outcast, as well as Armin and Mikasa all happen to be near the wall at the start of the attack. In fact all of the Titans are terrifying. I legitimately looked away at times because they were just like my worst dreams come true. The books and anime may give us a terrible glimpse of these monsters but the live action makes them real.

It puts them in our plain and proves they could really exist. The Colossal looked amazing. All of the Titans were scary but the Colossal looked like you could just reach out and touch him.

His detail was impressive, especially considering how little we get of him in the first film. Anyway, Eren, Armin, and Mikasa are trying to escape. This world, based in Japan instead of Europe, works less systematically than the real AOT world but it feels more realistic. People panic. They think buildings will save them. In reality buildings just show the Titans where their food is. In a particularly gripping scene Eren and Mikasa, having been separated from Armin, are trying to make it into a building when Mikasa sends Eren back for an old lady.

Eren gets the old lady but fails to get the baby she is protecting. Mikasa goes back for the baby and as much as Eren struggles, he cannot get to Mikasa in time before a Titan attack her. Eren does make it out alive, as does Armin but they are visibly scared from the incident.

We skip to two years later where Armin and Eren have joined the military in hopes of fixing the broken wall. I believe this outermost wall is called Monzen in this film and the idea is to explode the wall that the Colossal kicked a hole in. This will cause rubble to fall and fill in the hole. The wall will be smaller but most Titans will be unable to enter the wall. It is important to note that in this world the maneuvering gear does not exist until after the attack. Thus the group of soldiers including Eren and Armin are poorly trained in fighting with this gear.

Our first view of the gear is a lovely explanation by way of Hans the name attached to Hange in this movie. Hans is probably the character most like their anime counterpart. Minus the name change, this is the exact character from the movie and a beautiful rendition of her. Hans informs the recruits that they will be traveling at night and must be quiet, lest the wake up the Titans.

The group eats before leaving wherein Jean and Eren have their famous fight. The best part about this scene? Another soldier physically lifts Eren up and removes him from the fight in order to stop the two. Oh and Sasha shoves her face full of mashed potatoes. The group starts their trip to the town where the broken section of wall is but encounter problems on their way there.

This is caused by a soldier named Hiana who believes she hears a baby crying. Believing it must have been abandoned because how could a baby survive by itself for 2 years she runs into a building to find it. Not wanting to let her go by herself, Eren follows. Turns out there was a baby: a Titan baby. Those now exist and are made of nightmares. Finding the baby causes all the Titans in the area to wake up and attack the group. Hans leaves the soldiers on their own and tells them to make it to the tall buildings up ahead.

After a lot of soldiers die gruesome deaths, they do manage to make it. Here they encounter humanities greatest soldier, the absolute most disgusting thing about this movie, Shikishima as well as, interestingly, Mikasa.

Shikishima has taken her in and acts super, uncomfortably, sexual with her. I was not a fan. That said we do learn that Mikasa suffered a bite wound from the Titan, the baby died, but she did manage to live.

Because the next scene is definitely more creepy. Eren is sulking when he is approached by Hiana, the girl responsible for the first Titan attack. They start talking but soon overhear Lil and her boyfriend doing it. Lil is the Hannah of this movie, the girl who tries to do CPR on her boyfriend who only has half a body.

So you can imagine where this goes. Hiana sadly says that they pay child support when you enlist. And then she does the creepiest thing ever—she starts unbuttoning her shirt and trying to seduce Eren. The new recruits are forced to use their new maneuvering gear for the first time.

They search for higher ground and eventually Eren makes it up there. He starts off wobbly but does manage to kill a Titan, and then lose his leg. Elsewhere Armin and Sasha are trying desperately to stay alive. Lil goes a little crazy after this point and steals the explosives needed for the mission and rams them into a Titan hoping to kill it.

In a touching, and creepy, gesture Armin informs Mikasa that Eren is dead and gives her his arm as proof. Mikasa then goes a bit insane which makes zero sense since she seemed to pretty much just hate Eren earlier. But hey, whatever. Mikasa makes it back up to where Armin and the others are as Hans is having a cow at a Titan fighting another Titan. Hans is seriously the best part of the movie. Eren Titan eventually comes down and takes a swing at Mikasa, who is busy recognizing him as Eren which makes no sense but okay.

In the end the Titan body breaks down and they are ordered to cut him out by Shikishima? Mikasa cuts Eren out and this is where the first half ends. A lot happened during that first part. I wish her character made more sense but her actress still did a good job.

The parts where Mikasa is fighting are well done. Armin and Sasha spent most of the movie together and it was enjoyable for what it was. I was mostly upset by the removal of characters. Also is there no Erwin? Beyond the characters, the changes in the story were a little jarring but the movie was still pretty successful in my eyes. I enjoyed it. Am sure I read somewhere they are developing a live action show to continue after the two films or was I dreaming there?

The highlight for me was Titan Eren letting rip. It was never going to be flawless, and it had its share of Western detractors especially, but I thought it rocked. Like Liked by 1 person. Honestly my biggest problems were the removal of Levi and the creepy relationship between Mikada and Shikishima. Otherwise it was a very enjoyable film when you think about as a separate story from the original. Like Like.

Everything You Need To Know about Attack on Titan Before It Returns (Again!)

He is the live-action counterpart of Eren Yeager from the original Attack on Titan manga and is portrayed by the late Haruma Miura. Eren has short hair with it just barely parted around his eyes. He wears the standard Scout Regiment uniform. Eren is very focused and driven in his goals, whether it is to kill all the Titans or any other objective he puts his mind towards. It is also presumed that he has a high sense of bravery, due to joining the military despite knowing and acknowledging the dangers of doing so. Eren was born in the town of Monzen , and his father would forcibly test experimental serums on him; it is believed that the combination of all the various serums tested on him over the years granted Eren the ability to transform into a Titan, but neither Eren nor his father were aware of this.

Attack on Titan – Live-Action – part 1 (2015)

It's easy to forget if you've been consuming anime for most of your life, but the medium still resides firmly in the territory of niche entertainment. For a title to become popular with the general public, it must strike the difficult balance of being approachable enough to not scare away newcomers, while also maintaining the aesthetic and style so unique to a Japanese production that it will satisfy dyed-in-the-wool otaku enough to spread it in the first place. Just one of these crossover hits will pop up every couple years or so, oftentimes acting as excellent primers for new viewers to dive headfirst into the world of anime. Cowboy Bebop and Dragon Ball Z did this in the '90s. Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note did it in the 's. Then a young production company by the name of Wit Studio staffed largely by up-and-coming talents from burgeoning parent company Production I. While it took four long years for Studio Wit to create Attack on Titan 's second season, the wait for Season 3 has thankfully been much shorter. After just a little over a year, Attack on Titan Season 3 will make its television debut on July 22, , and that's after the premiere episodes have a brief theatrical run in the US on July Season 3 is set to have a episode run, compared to the second season's 12 episodes, and fan favorite Levi Ackerman is reported to have a much larger presence this time around. Attack on Titan Live-Action — one of the worst films ever made! A total disgrace to the original source material LOL not kidding even Japanese audiences were disappointed with it. This will be my most comical review so far. Because of scenes of people getting dismembered and devoured by titans, resulting is lots of gore more than what we know from the source material , is the reason that this film counts as a Japanese horror. For those who are not familiar with the source material, Attack on Titan basically depicts the last surviving humans living inside cities protected by three, huge 50 metre high walls, to keep out the humanoid human eating monsters called titans that suddenly appeared years earlier, thus forcing the survivors to build walls to keep them out, thus gaining a century of uneasy peace. Then humanity receives a grim reminder of their fear of the titans when a colossal titan larger than the wall breaks it, allowing the titans inside.

When I reviewed the first part of the Attack on Titan live action movie I came away from it intrigued to know more about the story and the world it presented us with. Sure, the movie had some flaws, but overall I was looking forward to seeing part 2. As a general note, this is a review for the second part of the live action movie so there are some spoilers for the first part. This movie picks up just after Eren, who had gone out of control after transforming into a Titan, is saved by Mikasa. Eren has been captured and chained up due to the chaos he caused at the end of the first movie. Ultimately Captain Kubal decides that Eren must be killed, and despite protests from Armin and others in the Survey Corps who feel he could be a tremendous aid in sealing the hole in the outer wall , the order is given to shoot Eren. When Eren next wakes he is greeted by Shikishima, who explains that he rescued our hero from the Titan and brought him to safety.

This Attack on Titan review contains spoilers. Samuel and Daz, brainwashed Jaegerists, brand Connie a traitor. This ironic label is practically a badge of honor coming from them, but it also brings to light how Connie viewed Bertholdt and Reiner as traitors all of those years ago when they kidnapped Eren. Connie and company have become the very traitors that they once fought to annihilate. They take solace in their ultimate goal to save the world, but this is exactly what Reiner wanted to achieve with his infiltration and kidnapping plan.

Attack on Titan - Live Action Movie - Part Two (Original Japanese Version)

Hajime Isayama has built himself an empire with his Attack on Titan manga. The movie has been met with heavy criticism from fans of the series so I wanted to see it for myself to try and understand their frustration. I went into this movie with an open mind and with the knowledge that this is an original story by Isayama and not a direct adaptation of his manga. When I came out of the other side of this film…. Humans are living isolated within the walls of the city and one day, the Colossal Titan shows up and kicks a hole through that wall.
