Love is in the air for this review, as I will be discussing my thoughts on an underrated romantic comedy anime called Lovely Complex. In addition, the main characters are relatable to one another and the viewers can sympathize for them in certain situations the protagonists come across. From the first episode to the last, the development between Atsushi and Risa can relate to that of a realistic high school relationship. The two protagonists start off as frenemies, and progress their way to forming a friendship…and then form a relationship.

The manga follows Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Otani's journey through highschool. Koizumi is 5'8" and Otani is 5'1". Because of their heights and incessant arguing, their classmates call them All Hanshin Kyojin a comedy duo with the same height difference. The story starts in summer school, when Koizumi falls for Suzuki, a very tall boy from another class. Otani also has a crush on Koizumi's friend Tanaka.

Love Com, or simply known as Lovely Complex, explores the turbulent roller coaster of teenage romance with the same silly slapstick humor that fans of romantic comedy anime will immediately be familiar with. While at times tearfully dramatic, a big selling point of Love Com is the hilarity that ensues between the comedic protagonists, Risa Koizumi and Atsushi Otani who both have serious height complexes that interferes with their confidence finding love. At cm about 5'7" , high school student Risa Koizumi is way taller than most other girls. This makes her very self-conscious, which she tries to cover up by acting strong-willed and sarcastic, rarely showing her more sensitive side in public. That her name means "Little Spring" Important! As in hot springs, not spring weather. Then she meets Atsushi Otani "Big Valley" , captain of the basketball club, although he is short for a guy at cm 5'1".

I recently finished watching Lovely Complex and somehow survived even after consuming so much sweetness! The story follows the loves lives of a short below average boy, Ootani Atsushi, and a tall above average girl, Koizumi Risa. Along they way many other romances are also shown but nothing compares to the chemistry between these two highly mismatched lovers!
