The manga is a PG17 version of Eureka Seven. After a classic shonen manga intro in the first volume where Renton and Eureka were still going on dates and stuff, volume 2 plunged into mass murder, suggestion of cannibalism, and mutilation. E7 follows the story of Renton, a boy longing to find bigger things in life. He met a mysterious girl Eureka and joined her in the Gekkostate, a group of outlaws trying to prevent some bad government plot involving Eureka and her equally mysterious mecha, Nirvash Type Zero. Also, I wish Eureka would spend less time getting trapped in the Coralian lol I barely get to see her pilot. The ship itself spent a lot of time either parked somewhere or being broken.

Eureka Seven (OST) lyrics

A post in The Epic Journey. Contains heavy Eureka Seven spoilers. However, of all of my favorite anime, I can probably remember the least of Eureka Seven. When I first watched the show in winter , I consumed all 50 episodes in under 48 hours, breaking any speed records I previously had. For starters, I never rewatched any of it. My only frequent contact was with two of the theme songs which are among my favorite songs and always trigger some memories of the show; other than that, though, there has only been a handful of doujins and various products I bought relating to the series such as a figure and poster from Otakon.

You can find all of the basic necessities here. As you will notice, this show had an enormous team working on it. Studio Bones has been known to truck in a metric ton of special people to co-do everything in their shows. In Rahxephon, this was done in an experimental fashion where certain episodes were totally off-the-wall from the rest of the insane story.

Eureka Seven has a much more carefully planned and executed story which uses the multitude of talents more for giving things their own styles within the boundaries of consistency. The 50 episodes can be considered divided into halves and again into fourths by season.

Both develop consistently with interval punctuation marks of development or plot twists. The character development is both believable and completely thorough. By the end of the show, we know everything that there is to know about most of the characters and can really get inside of their heads. One of the complaints many have about Eureka Seven is the Wagnerian length of 50 episodes, but I think that length is perfect. Nothing is left out and nothing feels unnecessary; it is a complete story in a complete world just like you would see in a fantasy novel.

In addition, the use of different types of story progression across each season from more central story arcs to wide-scale adventure provide not only fun variety, but a feeling of huge scope and a reflection of the different stages one faces in life.

This theme mostly applies directly to his relationship with Eureka. In the beginning, Renton promises to protect Eureka without comprehending the gravity of that commitment. As the series progresses, he must come to terms with that decision and rather than giving up after getting in over his head, make it into his dream and his duty and chase after it with all his might.

In fact, whole arcs are dedicated to Renton finding himself. Renton finds help and inspiration in many as well as having many self-realizations. Everything that happens truly effects each of the characters in some way.

The main ship and crew, the Gekkostate, is a huge proponent of counter-culture. This counter-culture style comes in strongest with riffing, a sort of air-surfing sport that is ever present in the series. Even the mechs fly by using sky surfboards.

The world in Eureka Seven has a ton of life and every location beams with color. Even the aliens glow almost like neon in their multitudes of green, yellow, orange, and other bright hues. The mechs, designed by Macross Man Shoji Kawamori, are very sleek and cool with minimal excess armor to add to the gracefulness with which they surf about the sky.

The story is grounded in ideas about the planet being alive, deeper forms of communication, ideas of co-existence with nature and adverse cultures, and even bits pertaining to the string theory. There were also a handful of really trippy episodes, usually involving Anemone and the consciousness of the planet. Naoki Sato composes an excellent OST for the show full of exciting and moving symphonic pieces. But honestly, only two of these songs really matter to me.

But more than that, the real money is op 3, Taiyou no Mannaka e by Bivattche. The song is by far my favorite anime theme ever and perfectly captures the spirit of the show. As expected from a long, epic, and far-reaching story, there are quite a few supporting characters in Eureka Seven. Like in most anime, all of the characters are at least given a spotlight moment or two. Renton is one of my favorite male leads ever because he is the most thoroughly explored I have ever seen. Before long, we see him off on his own to learn about the world and start to gain some perspective.

Through his devotion to Eureka, he is forced to face extreme circumstances and needs to grow up quickly to protect her. The more his love and understanding towards her grows, the more he learns to accept his responsibilities and fight for his love. Truly, at the end, he is a man. Unsurprisingly, my favorite part of Eureka Seven is Eureka herself.

Aside from developing every bit as much as Renton, she falls into almost every single turn-on that I have. I love women with strong maternal instinct. I feel like anything I saw about her will be full of bias, but like Renton she deserves credit for coming so far throughout the series. As mentioned in the beginning, for a show in my favorites, I have come into startlingly little contact with Eureka Seven. I do own an Eureka figure and a huge poster that I bought at Otakon. Perhaps the bigggest impact and result of watching Eureka Seven was becoming a fan of studio Bones.

That about concludes my recollective of the show, and I will now proceed to rewatch it and see if I still fell the same way. Flow is not Ali Project. But Storywriter gets special mention. Eureka Seven holds a special place in my heart because it was the first show that I downloaded fansubs of. It was my gateway to non-locally-shown anime and opened my eyes to the fuckton of great shows that I was missing out half of my life!

Some people might go for Dominic and Anemone, though. Some might argue that Renton had main character hax to do what he had to do, but Dominic was purely a smitten youth burning with passion and AI NO TAMENI his confession to the Gekkostate crew about wanting to save Anemone made me stop watching for a while and contemplate the deed in stark silence.

I might end up loving them on round two. There were some things I liked about Dewey. I liked how he was introduced, as a prisoner, and he [rather quickly] came to power. Why did they look so weird? If the success of the Transformers movies is to be believed, people love watching robots fight each other. Anime has been providing these epic over-the-top action stories since Gigantor Tetsujin go was released all the way back in Some historic anime still inspire the mecha genre to this day while newer shows try to innovate it with new forms of storytelling and action. Mecha anime aren't going anywhere anytime soon thanks to these fantastic shows, regardless of the genre's contemporary popularity or presence. Debuting as the first Netflix original anime, Knights of Sidonia came with an entry barrier due to its platform exclusivity and its 3D CG animation. The latter tends to be a hard sell for most people, but this art style is a good fit for a sci-fi mecha anime set in the harsh coldness of space. Knights of Sidonia tells a rather conventional story in most ways, as it follows an outcast who has a talent for an antiquated brand of mecha that proves to be the most dependable line of defense against an alien threat. Naturally, this leads to plenty of awesome fight sequences.

It visually represents of a whole range of social problems, all arising from forces that even the protagonists cannot even control. The techno drum machine, the barking choir and the synthesizer combine in a disturbing explosion of loud, polyphonic sound. The composition was designed to make people as uncomfortable as possible, to hit them with all these stunning cultural issues. However, stuck between his grandfather's insistence to become a mechanic like him and the pressure of his deceased father's legacy, the only excitement Renton finds is in his pastime of riding the Trapar wave particles that are dispersed throughout the air, an activity akin to surfing. Everything changes when an unknown object crashes through Renton's garage, discovered to be a Light Finding Operation—a robot capable of riding the Trapar waves—specifically known as the Nirvash typeZERO. Its pilot is a young girl named Eureka, a member of the Gekkostate, who requests a tune-up for the Nirvash. Their meeting sparks the beginning of Renton's involvement with the Gekkostate as he takes off alongside Eureka as the co-pilot of the Nirvash. Between the alternate retelling in Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers and the unfortunate continuation in Astral Ocean , the same magic and energy that existed with the series once upon a time never seemed to reignite in the same way that the original television series had.
