This is not just about ol' Ratburn's wedding. The agenda has been evident since the show first came out in Where do I even begin? Buster's parents are divorced. Unfortunately, this does happen in real life. However, it seems that the writers were trying to normalize this unnatural family situation.
In some shots of Prunella's room, occult symbols are hidden in plain sight. The character and her older sister, Rubella, even talk positively about occult practices! This has got to raise some viewers' eyebrows. It is also weird how Buster is so obsessed with aliens. Finally, Patrick Ratburn's little buddy from his wedding doesn't even have any character development and only appeared in fOuR out of episodes. The character doesn't have the full range of emotions or many life experiences.
He was basically just quick virtue signaling for PBS. There you have it folks, another agenda-driven PBS program. It seems a bit more subtle than some other shows, and that is how parents used to treat it like a "set it and forget it" show. Yet, the real agenda is pretty blatant. MuggleMama22 Adult. I am extremely selective with the shows that my my children are allowed to watch. Arthur is one show that I don't mind them binging. Every episode is wholesome and entertaining. The creators of Arthur continue to create episodes that reflect real situations that real children are facing- a loved one being diagnosed with cancer, losing one's home to a natural disaster, having a classmate with autism or a nut allergy I could go on and on.
Arthur also does a great job of modeling positive social-emotional skills. After 25 years, this show is still wonderfully relevant. I am so thankful that it is still on the air. This title has: Great messages. Great role models. Hero DA Adult. This show is amazing! Raritysfans Adult.
Not the 80s comedy Arthur or King Arthur. Arthur that began in the s, and became cult. Lots of education like April 9th, but also a lot of bullying too.
Good for teens and up too for making Youtube memes. This title has: Too much violence. Too much swearing. Too much consumerism. MissPiggy Adult. Arthur is a fine TV show that will teach children all about how others have similar everyday experiences to their own. It's not at all like the books, though, which was disappointing to my children. Used to watch it as a kid and I'm an adult now and still watch it from time to time. Haven't seen the Mr. Ratburn gay marriage episode but I feel like that would be a positive thing?
In terms of normalising that concept for kids. Arthur stands the test of time because its witty and progressive. I love love love the Arthur series. Both have watched it since before birth as I used to watch it in college. My biggest problem involves sweet darling kind Buster always being portrayed as the dumb one and that obnoxious know it all Allan always the smart one. And I hate it when adults Ratburn adding to it.
Episode Buster is at the blackboard trying to solve a Math problem when he gets completely jumbled up and blurts out a random number. And of course he provides the correct answer. Soooo many issues here. Where do I unpack. Yes by end of episode Binky steps in to teach him that sometimes we just need to follow a different path to arrive at the same place. The worst part is all the kids join in in acknowledging that these two are playing their parts. We need to make sure our kids know not to marginalize or box people in.
Please please please fix this. Buster is really our favorite character. Last but not least. Thank you for the episode with Mr. Ratburn getting married. Osborne Adult. I grew up with Arthur and it is a favorite of mine. I love the moral of the range of topics and stories Arthur covers and it is fun and entertaining for kids.
Mama North Adult. I loved this show when I was a teenager and did some nannying, but now that I'm a mom myself I won't let my kid watch it til she's older. It's a super cute and fun show, it entertained me quite a bit as an older kid But as some other reviews say the kids can be pretty snarky, and especially the relationship between Arthur and his sister DW is definitely not something I'd want my kid to emulate!
My daughter will have to wait for this one. I grew up watching Arthur, and I still watch an occasional episode now and then. It's a great show that handles conflict resolution, respect, and friendship and family relationships at a level kids can understand without being too over-simplistic. In addition, it has a pretty diverse cast of characters.
Some reviewers have mentioned that Arthur doesn't treat his siblings right, but c'mon, let's have some common sense! All siblings have an argument from time to time, but they always work it out and there are consequences when appropriate. Overall, I whole-heartedly recommend Arthur to everyone. After 25 seasons, Arthur aired its final ever episode this week, and fans were not emotionally prepared for the cartoon's conclusion.
