You really have to see it to believe it. The protagonists meet a leader who apparently spent, like, two years standing in one place and punching the air ten thousand times a day.

Well seem that only P is out. Will update while I watch xD So many awful cliche crap fits more with naruto, audio-wise so far unimpressive, mostly bad. Animation: so-so and irregular. At some points feels like a modern animation and a bit later like My Neighbor Totoro So.. Common cliche plot as well, "hurr durr hatred" "derp derp darkness will beat light" Oh god.

Gon's first scene, his running is so badly animated Facial expressions of Gon and Killua Why put filler crap on a movie? Spoiler well Thank god this shit isn't canon because it'd be a shame to see the floor masters and heaven's arena ruined like this. Let's stay seated!! Ok, will let one go because hostages. Last edited: Jul 31, The end was very bad. But it was nice overall. I like the antagonist, they wanted to show the corruption of the hunters.

Pariston was having a good time during the panic We saw him again, when the corrupt politician was thinking to the hunter who helped him. Their innocent clan was destroyed by the hunters. My God this film was so full of cheese and corn that I can't really call it a coincidence that I decided to eat Doritos as my snack throughout the film. Regardless I still had fun with it, I didn't really give a crap about the whole "on" thing and the corniness of the whole plot can really be distracting, but as far as I'm concerned this blew phantom rouge out of the water.

The characters are ALOT less annoying than they were in rouge and frankly this was just more fun. It's nowhere near close to being as good as anything the series itself can do when Togashi's writing but if Rouge did anything right, it allowed me to easily lower my expectations significantly.

I'm someone who doesn't really watch animated movies based on an ongoing series, because I enjoy following the plot and canon. That being considered should I just wait for someone to make a video featuring the best animated moments, or the fights?

Reading through some of the reactions above it seems that it really isn't worth my time. Had a bit of time, decided to give the movie a shot. Found myself sorely disappointed. It was pretty awful. The whole concept of On was rather ridiculous. And the conclusion itself was underwhelming to say the least.

The character designs were reminiscent of, let's say, this: Spoiler. That doesn't look that bad. I didn't think it looked bad at all. Plus, the animation was actually fluid this time around - unlike that stick in the mud, Phantom Rouge that was stiff as a typical episode from a TV anime at times, even.

But, the Phantom Troupe in PR certainly seemed there just to be there which, in general, felt like a big problem. Except for most of the climax, this movie also didn't have as much laughable, over-the-top, conflicting friendship BS that pervaded PR.

The antagonist was also somewhat interesting, instead of coming off as an utterly deprived hack. So, the movie was fun for the family, and alright for me which is just as I expected - judging from people's impressions that were based on what they're used to in the anime.

Both these movies were pretty enjoyable when it comes to being a fan, but when it comes to the series standards : PR - 3. Last edited: Aug 1, It happens again But unlike Phantom Rouge which was painfully cliched, this one was The plot was okay if not too special, the villains were more interesting this time, the action scenes were well done, the animation was top notch and the designs weren't as bad as last time.

But the ending was terrible. So super cliched and overly painful! We have Netero. EFFing Netero!! And you give the final blow to Gon?!!

Oh, and the whole "Gon's heart is pure" bit? I don't buy it because as we all know Gon is not Goku. He's not pure and innocent to be called that. The ending was terrible, but I did enjoy what came before. Thank goodness it didn't. The only good thing is the fight scenes were cool, and well-animated as we all would expect of a movie production.

I stopped watching it the moment they mentionned Darkness over light crap, typical shonen stuff. Tbh I don't think the movie is aimed for us but for new audience. Just my thoughts after watching. It was better than Phantom Rouge I guess. Some fun bits of fanserivice. Scene with Leorio and Hisoka Goreinu shown being rich after Greed Island G on using his fishing pole Our main four together Heaven's Arena again Well done animation particular in Gon and Killua's fight Unfortunately the movie fails at aspects of the universe.

Netero uses zero hand and it doesn't have nearly the impact it should. Netero in general in just poorly used. For a story about him, it barely does anything interesting with him.

The stories in these movies have a hard time getting right what Hunter x Hunter does so much. Gon isn't a super strong protag, and Togashi never puts him up against someone stronger than him to just receive a last minute power up. What I mean is Gon never fought the King, didn't want too, didn't need too.

He didn't fight Chrollo, he fought Genthru but won thanks to Biscuit and Killua's plan. Gon fights Zed and gains a out of nowhere power up to beat him, Netero was the one who had a history with him why not give us an all out battle between them? I still don't really get On, what makes it different than Nen that has restrictions and vows placed on them?

Doesn't help that Zed is not an interesting villain. The movie is also too long for it's own good. Despite how much they seemed to be skipping on fight scenes. Come on at least show me Wing using Ko or something. Some other things that irked me Emperor Time was seriously nerfed.

You can tell the writers were struggling in that regard. Doing everything possible to not show Kurapika fighting. And why is he using his swords? Did they forget he can still use his chains to fight? I don't hate Zushi but not in love with him either. I find it hard to believe he made floor master when it looks like he doesn't even have a Hatsu. Again On is just not inetersting. Last edited: Aug 5, For a movie none of us actually paid to see , I think the amount of vitriol directed at The Last Mission here is a tad overblown.

Madhouse was obviously never going to match Togashi's writing style with its movies. No animation studio could. We should instead judge The Last Mission based on the standard of whether or not it delivered an entertaining standalone experience.

The best anime on Netflix right now (July 2022)

It was released in Japanese theaters on December 27 th , and was released in Malaysian cinemas on March 27 th , The movie takes place after the Greed Island arc at the start of the Chimera Ant arc while Gon and Killua were exploring with Kite, and may or may not be a part of the canon story-line due to lack of official statements. The strongest Hunters that once existed in the Hunter Association were split into two groups, the latter being called the "Shadow", and each walked down their respective paths. After facing discrimination and massacre, the Shadow begins moving in order to massacre all Hunters!

The events of the Chimera Ants Arc put Gon and Killua's friendship through its greatest trial yet. Though they reunite in the aftermath with no.

Hunter × Hunter -The Last Mission- (movie)

My Japanese is certainly better now, but I think this movie is considerably more complex than that one. Madhouse brought in Kishima Nobuaki, one of the writers from the Nippon Animation adaptation, and I think that helped with continuity a bit. Hisoka is on-hand too, as is Netero — the former seemingly out of curiosity, and the latter to deliver the official welcoming address, as the Hunter Association seems to have given the event which has many licensed Hunters involved, of course their blessing. What we miss without Togashi is the deep psychological underpinnings of the story — these movies are mostly action-driven. Oh shiny — the Shinjuku pics too — :D. I can't spoiler tag in comments so I don't want to say too much.

Hunter × Hunter: The Last Mission

Shonen franchise films have earned a reputation for being formulaic and phoned-in. There are over a dozen Dragon Ball Z and One Piece movies, and most of them follow familiar story beats featuring forgettable foes and paper-thin plots that serve as an excuse for fights to happen. These movies are written like your boilerplate shonen movie plots, and The Last Mission , in particular, uses one of the most tired of stock shonen storylines — the tower climb. Hunter x Hunter is known for subverting cliches and putting unique spins on familiar shonen tropes, but The Last Mission plays all its ideas embarrassingly straight, right down to its climax featuring a friendship speech that brings our hero back to his senses and a random last-minute power-up that inexplicably saves the day. Yet despite his experience with the franchise, the movie reads as if it was written by someone who barely knows these characters.

Review: ‘Hunter X Hunter: The Last Mission’ is strictly for the zealous

The third season of the Disney Plus series is scheduled to kick off in February He also works on breaking tech, culture and every other kind of news. The live-action series will kick off next February. Let's take a look at where Mando's adventures, which take place five years after Return of the Jedi , are likely to go next.

Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission Review

The reboot of Hunter x Hunter is shounen anime at its best: bright, optimistic, and running on the power of friendship and determination. However, don't be fooled by its sunny veneer: it will come for the audience's heart right when they least expect it. All four main protagonists and a fair few of the supporting cast are driven by trauma and pain, and their journeys only grow more harrowing as the show goes on. In episodes such as "Salvation and Future," the series' central tragedies and themes of power, corruption, and betrayal are brought to the forefront, making them some of the saddest episodes in Hunter x Hunter. Despite the character Gyro never actually being seen, this episode sets him up for a future appearance by stopping to deliver his backstory.

It apparently takes place between Greed Island and the Chimera Ant some time before the latter arc begins as it's mentioned that Gon and Killua were traveling with Kite and took a break from that. Years ago before the main timeline, Netero did battle against a man named Jed who could use a mysterious ability known as "On". While he managed to defeat him, Jed vowed his grudge against Netero would never end.
