Rainbow Brite made her animated debut in the syndicated prime-time television special, "Peril in the Pits," which was first aired on June 27, In Gen 1 continuity, and most of the franchise 's backstory, a young girl named Wisp is brought to a gray, desolate land with the mission to bring color to this fictional world by locating the Sphere of Light. Along the way, she befriends a furry creature called a sprite named Twink and a magnificent horse named Starlite and finds a mysterious baby who turns out to be the key to her mission. With the help of her new friends, Wisp locates the legendary Color Belt and rescues the seven Color Kids, who had been trapped by the King of Shadows.

Rainbow Brite, and her magical horse Starlite, must stop an evil princess and her underlings from taking over the planet Spectra. When they meet Orin, the wise Sprite tries to make the two children get along and work together to stop the evil Princess. Orin tells them that they can only destroy her by combining their own powers against her. Getting in the way of their mission is the sinister Murky Dismal and his bumbling assistant Lurky who, as usual, are lavishing in the new gloom created by the darkening of Spectra, as well as trying to steal Rainbow's magical color belt.

Rainbow Brite was a cartoon based on a Hallmark greeting card series featuring its namesake character. The story is that a little girl named Wisp is taken by a Sphere of Light to a land without color. The movie "Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer," made in , added a magical planet of light named Spectra, which is also called the diamond planet. All the light in the universe must pass through Spectra before coming to earth.

Rainbow Brite, a girl in charge of changing the seasons and keeping the universe colorful, steps up to stop the princess. All of her friends help, including a brash, overconfident new acquaintance called Krys. The film was the second feature film produced by DIC and was produced in three months. The series is one of those that I was always vaguely aware of thanks to cultural osmosis, but I personally never got into the show. The unnamed Princess wants to steal Spectra, a diamond planet that is crucial to the existence of the universe. All of the universes light must pass through Spectra, and should anything happen to the diamond-planet the Universe would grow dimmer and dimmer and eventually die. My favourite thing about the Princess is that she has an enormous gemstone that she treats as like a pet.

The Dark Princess loved to collect diamonds and other beautiful, expensive gems. She constantly carried a large emerald which she treated as if it were a pet and even talked to it as if it were alive. The Dark Princess wanted the diamond planet Spectra all to herself. But by attempting to steal it, she caused Earth to become trapped in a permanent winter, and soon the rest of the universe would have been brought into darkness.
