Amandla Stenberg is continuing to reach greater heights — literally. The animated feature centers on a teenage orangutan named Ozi played by Stenberg who is orphaned when her forest is burned down. Co-screenwriter Keith Chapman is best known as the creator of the massively popular Paw Patrol franchise. The film is currently in production and scheduled to hit theaters next summer. Stenberg has been vocal about selecting projects that speak to their values, to the point of feeling the weight of that expectation from audiences.

Netflix has consistently provided viewers with a pretty wide array of animated series, ranging from family-friendly fare to more adult humor. Last week, it was confirmed that another title will soon be joining that roster — Chicago Party Aunt.
On Wednesday, Netflix announced that it has given a sixteen-episode order to the series, which is based on the cult-favorite Twitter account of the same name. The account first went viral in after announcing a run for the mayor of Chicago , a move that inspired official merchandise and even appearances on local television. According to Netflix, Diane Dunbrowski Lauren Ash has always been and always will be the life of the party, even when the party has long since been over.
Her complete lack of adulting is perfectly balanced by her heart of gold and desire to help others. The series will also follow Daniel Rory O'Malley , Diane's nephew who takes a gap year to live in the city with her. Holy shit! Netflix just bought the rights to my life! Anybody have a password I can borrow? Matt Craig will serve as showrunner. Titmouse known for Big Mouth and its upcoming Human Resources spinoff will serve as the animation studio as part of its overall deal with Netflix.

The new Netflix animated series undercuts the strengths of its medium and its cast through sloppy, tired craft and writing. Why are some stories animated instead of live-action? There are a variety of good reasons: introducing fantastic or surreal elements, making characters more expressive, or experimenting with genre. Backgrounds and objects lack texture, and at times it is as if the characters are hovering in front of the scenes instead of interacting with them.

Any time the series wants to make a statement about how queer people are treated within the contemporary cultural landscape, it undercuts itself by reinforcing whatever stereotype it was quick to joke about. They want Q-Force to be a progressive series, one that proves that anyone can be a spy and that all sorts of queer people can show their use. But, much like Brooklyn Nine-Nine which Schur co-created and Liedman worked on , the series has difficulty being critical of anything it depicts; Q-Force makes jokes about brands like Citibank pandering to gay people at Pride and how the American government hates gay people, while also casually reinforcing homonationalism at every beat. Transparently awesome These earbuds have active noise cancellation, transparency mode to let in outside sound as needed, and active EQ to ensure you get the best out of your audio. Despite its stated intent to explore these characters who were rejected by the spy community for being queer, the series barely gives them any personalities of their own. The character designs are as uninspired as most adult animated shows these days with some actors literally just appearing as animated versions of themselves —not so much ugly , but not exactly appealing to look at or even the slightest bit visually ambitious. Nothing about Q-Force really stands out, especially in a world where a number of genuinely good animated series for adults exist.

Drag is a way to flip the mundane script of everyday life and become something bigger than yourself; heroic, almost. They are guided by Champagne, who sends them off on their mission to protect queer icon and pop star Goldiva from the evil Lady Elza, all while living under a homophobic political leader. This raunchy candy-coated cartoon makes it very clear through its promo that it is not for children: characters make incessant sex jokes, bulges in all the male characters are made prominent, swaying every which way, and literally everything from robots to flatulence are illustrated in the shape of a phallus. But while the show is irreverent, it is also extremely aware of the community it is representing. Each of the Super Drag members tackle prevalent issues in the queer community.
