Body Standards and The Pressure to Alter Your Personality and How You Speak

Published
I care what people think about me. There I said it. Most of us don’t want to admit it but it’s the truth. How we look, how we talk, and how we act are such important factors in society that we constantly dismiss people–whether we’re conscious about it or not–if they don’t meet basic standards in any of these 3.

We’re constantly willing to alter ourselves if we find out we don’t meet someone else’s standards and a lot of times those standards are generally imposed by society itself. Yet no one is harsher on our looks and speech than ourselves. As someone who’s lived between 2 very different cultures, I learned this the hard way. However, there’s one thing that I’ve noticed has continually pulled me out of that warped mindset we all fall victim to on our bad days.
