Māori Futures – a spotlight on leadership and innovation, and aspirations for the future

Kia whakatōmuri te haere whakamua: walk backwards into the future with eyes on the past

Colonisation has had a huge and varied impact for Māori, with Māori now often overrepresented in negative statistics across child poverty, education, health, employment, and in our justice systems. Historically, Māori have been strong leaders and innovators, and although there are currently some powerful Māori in positions of leadership and innovation in Aotearoa there is still far to go in terms of positive representation of Māori in leadership positions.

How do we build on this success, harness and celebrate Māori culture, be better Te Tiriti partners and support better future outcomes for Māori as a whole?
